Ice-type Pokémon are your go-to up against Dragon, Flying, Grass, and Ground types. Attacks against these types are super-effective, dealing 160% damage. Up against opponents like Rayquaza, Landorus, and Garchomp, you're looking at a whopping 256% double super-effective damage. Keep in mind that Ice types are sort of a glass cannon, since they're only resistant to Ice attacks and take increased damage from Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel. In PvE battles, having an Ice type on the team can help players sweep through legendary Dragon and Flying-type Raid bosses like Rayquaza, Zapdos, Landorus, and Dragonite.

- Mega Apex: Mega Abomasnow (Powder Snow + Weather Ball) provides some serious damage while also boosting Ice-type attacks in the raid. Some non-Ice Megas who can run Ice moves, like Mega Rayquaza or Mega Gardevoir (using Triple Axel), are also offensive powerhouses to consider.

- Budget Non-Shadow Fillers: Don't have heaps of XL Candy or Shadow Stardust? Standard Mamoswine, Galarian Darmanitan (Ice Fang + Avalanche), Glaceon (Frost Breath + Avalanche), and Baxcalibur are budget-friendly raid choices.
PvP League Breakdown
- Great League: Dewgong dominates the field as a tanky choice with Ice Shard + Icy Wind / Drill Run, lowering enemy Attack stats. Alolan Ninetales (Powder Snow + Weather Ball) and Walrein (Powder Snow + Icicle Spear) are great counters against Ground and Flying types.
- Ultra League: Walrein is a top choice with Powder Snow + Icicle Spear and Earthquake. Meanwhile, Alolan Sandslash uses Shadow Claw + Ice Punch / Drill Run to tear into Dragon, Fairy, and Steel-types, while Lapras serves as a great tank..

- Charged Moves: Avalanche and Triple Axel are top-tier PvE picks for maximum damage output. For PvP, Icy Wind is invaluable for guaranteed enemy debuffs, while Icicle Spear and Weather Ball (Ice) offer fast, low-energy shield pressure.
- Snow Mechanics: Snowy weather boosts wild Ice-type spawn rates, awards 25% extra catching Stardust, and applies a flat 20% damage multiplier to all Ice-type attacks across Raids, Gyms, and Trainer Battles.

Is Shadow Mamoswine better than Mega Abomasnow?
For pure solo DPS, yes. During solo runs, Shadow Mamoswine deals way more individual damage. However, Mega Abomasnow is the better option in group raids since its Mega aura boosts the attack damage of every other Ice-type on the field by 30%.
Are Ice-types superior to Dragon-types against Dragon Raid bosses?
Yes. While Dragon-type moves are super-effective against Dragon bosses, keep in mind that it's a two-way street. On the other hand, Ice-types deal the same amount of damage without being affected by Dragon-type boss moves.
How important is the Legacy move Icicle Spear for Walrein?
A huge deal for PvP. Without Icicle Spear (and Powder Snow), Walrein loses its low-energy shield pressure and drops considerably in battle ranking. You'll definitely want to get your hands on a Elite Charged TM if you missed its Community Day.
