About WoW Classic Accounts

Your WoW Classic account is tied with your WoW Retail account. Furthermore, you may only access it when you have an active game subscription on your account. It doesn’t matter if you have the latest expansion or not, you may play WoW Classic as long as you’ve paid for game time.

On the flipside, starter accounts let you play WoW without having to pay for a subscription. You won’t get past level 20, form a party, or be able to trade, but it’s enough to give you a taste of the game. Can I Play WoW Classic with a Starter Account?

There is no such thing as a ‘WoW Classic starter account’. The confusion stems from an error message when trying to trade or doing a restricted action right after buying a subscription. ‘You cannot (action) with a starter account,’ it says. What actually happens is after you buy some game time, your account enters a period of transition from the starter account to the paid one. You don’t get the full benefits yet, but you do get access to a few things.

The period lasts about three days. You’ll be able to play Classic, but features are limited until the restrictions get lifted. Just be patient and you’ll soon be able to get the full benefits of a paid account. This period of limited access is a fraud prevention measure. WoW Classic Account Transfers

Account transfers are a paid service Blizzard provides. It allows players to move characters from realm to realm, and even from account to account. Of course, there are restrictions. Retail and Classic have different restrictions. However, we’ll focus on Classic, as this is a page for WoW Classic accounts.

You may only transfer a character to another realm every three or so months. They have to be at least level 10 and must have a certain amount of gold held (determined by level). Also, they should have no active Auction House deals nor unread mailbox messages before the transfer.

On the realm side, you cannot transfer from a PvE server to a PvP one. Transferring from PvP to PvE is allowed, however. Transfers will fail if you have a character on the opposite faction on the destination PvP realm. Restricted realms will not accept your new character, despite already having a character in that realm. You cannot change regions in this way, though you may move from US East to US West and vice versa. Lastly, you cannot have more than the maximum allotted characters on a realm.

WoW Classic allows realm-to-realm transfers only. Your WoW Classic characters are stuck in the accounts you made them in, at least until Blizzard makes the feature available for Classic. For now, there is no way, in WoW Classic, to move characters to another account.
