Veiger Build & Rune Guide

Veigar Guide

The Tiny Master of Evil, Veigar, is the ultimate mid-lane champion. With his potent magic abilities, Veigar damages enemy champions and takes them down. Since the start, he has been one of the most powerful burst mages of the Summoners Rift. With his ungodly powerful abilities, any beginner player can lead the mid-lane with glorious victory.

How To Play Veigar In League Of Legends

Veigar is a burst mage who can cast highly damaging magic spells on enemies while keeping a distance from them. Using his Q, He can gain a CS advantage by damaging two enemies with a single strike. Whereas his E>W combo does significant AOE damage. At first, E stuns and imprisons the enemy in a cage, and then W casts a mass of dark matter onto the enemy, causing damage.

The R ability can cause significant magic damage to enemy champions which can be increased based on the enemy's low health. In the early game, you should avoid long fights with enemies, as Veigar is a short-exchange champion. Always remember that Veigar is a burst mage ranged champion, which means he plays best from being at a distance. You have to use a perfect combination of abilities and spells to cripple and burn down enemy targets.

How Do Veigar’s Abilities Work?

Since Veigar is a beginner champion, his abilities are simple and easy to use. They do not require much experience, for any beginner player with minimum knowledge of his abilities can work through him. Moreover, the radius affected by both W and E is quite large, which provides Veigar players an advantage over their enemies.

Phenomenal Evil Power (Passive)

Veigar’s passive ability, Phenomenal Evil Power, increases his chances of survival, for a longer time. This innate ability increases Veigar's AP, allowing him to cause increased magic damage to the targeted enemies.

Every time, a Veigar player hits an enemy champion with his ability, a single stack is generated. But when they score a takedown over an enemy champion, a bundle of five stacks is generated. For each stack gained, Veigar generates one ability power.

Baleful strike (Q)

Veigar’s principal magic ability, Baleful Strike, can be cast on enemies from a range. It is a potent ability for killing creeps and gaining CS advantage. This AOE ability deals magic damage on the first two enemy targets hit, often killing them with a single hit.

If this ability kills an enemy, it generates a single stack of Phenomenal Evil. But, in the case of a large minion or a monster, three stacks are generated. +14 AP increases when the Veigar player takes down two enemy champions using a baleful strike.

Dark Matter (W)

This ability is one of the most popular among players as it can cause a great deal of damage to the enemies while standing far from them. Upon pressing W, Veigar will cast a great mass of dark matter, which falls from the sky onto the target location. Enemies inside the parameter will deal magic damage upon contact.

Dark Matter cooldown time reduces when you have higher stacks of Phenomenal Evil. If Veigar dies instantly after casting, the dark matter still falls on the target location.

Event Horizon (E)

Event Horizon is Veigar’s only CC ability, in which he forms a cage on a target location. The cage erects after 0.5 seconds and remains intact for up to 3 seconds. During that time, enemies that run into the walls get stunned and knocked down for a while. Although, often, enemies do not get trapped inside the cage due to their high mobility, meaning that ability placement is key.

Primordial Burst (R)

Primordial Burst is Veigar’s final ultimate ability which, upon casting, sends a burst of primordial energy onto the targeted enemy champion. This ability can cause a great deal of magic damage, which can be increased based on the enemy's missing health.

One of the benefits of this ability is, that if during the cast time, the target is untargetable, dies, or is out of sight, it gets canceled and does not even go on a cooldown.

Veigar’s Build Path (Items + Runes)

Veigar Build’s path is simple enough since he is supposed to be a champion for beginners. But for some players, it can be a little confusing. This is why we are here to explain which combination of items and runes is best when playing with Veigar.

Items

Starting Items: Like other mages, Veigar loses his mana and health pretty quickly in the beginning. That’s why Doran’s Ring is a good starting item for you. It allows you to regenerate mana every second. This amount also increases when you damage an enemy champion. If, for some reason, you are unable to restore mana, the ring also allows you to regenerate health.

Core Items: When playing with Veigar, you should opt for Rod Of Ages and Archangel’s Staff. Both of these items, when combined, will increase the total AP up to 130, mana 900, health 600, and ability haste 15.

This large amount of mana, health, and AP will help you survive longer in the game, allowing you to deal magic damage to the enemies.

Boots: As Veigar is one of the burst mages, you should go with sorcerer’s shoes because they enhance move speed and magic damage.

Situational Items: Rabadon’s Deathcap massively increases 120 AP allowing you to deal magic damage. Zohnya’s Hourglass should be followed next. It will make you untargetable for 2.5s.

When playing with Champions with high AP, Void Staff should be taken next. It increases magic damage by 65 AP and 40% magic penetration. To block an enemy's ability, pick Banshee's Veil.

Runes

Primary: First Strike should be the first rune of your rune of choice. It grants you extra gold each time damage is done to the enemy. Combined with Veigar’s primordial burst, the first strike can earn you an abundance of gold.

Magical Footwear, Biscuit Delivery, and Cosmic Insight should opt for the rest of the primary runes. Magical Footwear enhances speed and becomes available 12 s into the game. They are free of cost. Veigar consumes a lot of mana which is why Biscuit delivery should be taken, as it provides players with extra mana when consumed. Cosmic insight reduces cooldown time for summoner’s spells, allowing Veigar to use his flash more often.

Secondary: Manaflow Band and Transcendence are the staple secondary runes for almost every champion. They provide them with an abundant flow of mana during intervals, resolving their mana issues. Furthermore, these runes will increase cooldown reductions throughout the game, which means; there's less time for enemies to regenerate health after the engagement.

Final Thoughts

Veigar is a very easy-to-play champion. His abilities are fun to play, especially when it comes to the combination of Event Horizon and Dark Matter; you can say that you will take down some enemies or at least do some damage. If you love playing mid-lane, Veigar is your go-to tiny evil mage.
