What Are Crystals?

Crystals are a type of crafting ingredient used to make Tier 4 or even higher-rated weapons in Fortnite. Upgrading weapons is something that’s common in Fortnite’s Save the World. Whenever you’re about to reach Tier 4, you have the option to upgrade the weapon with either an Ore or Crystal of the same tier. While Ore is a suitable choice for an upgrade since it’s much more durable and has a higher fire rate, Crystals are more popular since they provide more base damage even though they suffer a bit in the durability department. Crystals are used to make Crystal weapons which are essentially souped-up versions of normal weapons. Because of this, Crystal weapons are ranked higher than weapons that are made even with Malachite Ore. This crafting material can often be found in caves and mines, similar to where ores can usually be found.

Types of Crystals to Avoid Buying

Before you check out, there are some things that you need to take note of when buying Crystals. First off, there are different types of Crystals-- some being better than others. So if you’re wondering why a specific stack of Crystals is cheaper compared to another offer, it’s probably because they’re not offering the same type of Crystal. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are the types of Crystals that you need to take note of and why you should make the effort to avoid them:

1. Fortnite Quartz Crystal: The Quartz Crystal is the most common type of Crystal in Fortnite. Commonly found in caves, the Quartz Crystal has a white translucent sheen that can be easily mistaken for a Diamond. These are used to craft weapons and traps and are widely available in Save the World mode. You won’t have trouble finding these in the game since they’re pretty much scattered across different caves. You’re bound to stumble upon them without effort, so save your money for something else!
2. Moonglow Crystal: If you see a post for Moonglow Crystals, don’t fall for it! Moonglow Crystals that people are selling or trading nowadays are mostly dupes since it’s unobtainable. The only way certain players have this is through hacking and, if Epic Games sees you in possession of this item, there’s a possibility that you could get banned. We recommend that you get some Shadowshard Crystals instead which is a Tier 4 Crystal.
3. Fortnite Rainbow Crystal: Rainbow Crystals were actually accidentally given to players during the early stages of Fortnite Save the World. Since then, these Crystals have no longer been found in the game. While they can be considered “rare,” they’re basically useless since you can’t use them to upgrade weapons anymore. As far as we’re concerned, Rainbow Crystals are absolutely useless. Don’t fall for tricks like other people saying that they’re “one-of-a-kind”, because they’re not and it could be the sole reason your account could get banned!
