As Season 2 gets underway, the Mythic+ dungeon landscape has undergone a dramatic shift. Between baseline tuning adjustments, rebalanced Tier Set bonuses, and systemic class tweaks This tier list ranks all damage specializations based on their real-world effectiveness in high Mythic+ environments, helping you choose the right spec for high-key progression and pugging success.
Tier Breakdown
-
S Tier: Dominant meta powerhouses. Unmatched damage profiles, lethal priority burst, and top-tier group utility or survivability. Mandatory picks for pushing peak key levels.
-
A Tier: Highly reliable and lethal performers. Powerful DPS and strong toolkits that easily clear high-level keys, trailing S Tier only by minor gaps in damage density, defensive consistency, or party synergy.
-
B Tier: Solid, capable specializations. Fully viable for clearing weekly keystone achievements, but held back by capped AoE, strict positioning requirements, or weaker defensives.
-
C Tier: Niche or tuning-challenged specs. Capable of performing in structured groups, but require more effort, ideal pull setups, or specific team compositions to match higher tiers.
-
D Tier: Currently struggling specializations. Severely penalized by recent patch tuning, unfavorable cooldown rhythms, or a lack of impactful dungeon utility in Season 2.
Season 2 DPS Class Tier List
The Season 2 Meta favors high mobility, burst damage, and survivability. So, you'll need to consider these factors when choosing a spec. To help you understand the meta, here's a complete tier list of the best specs to use in Season 2.
S Tier Classes
Arcane Mage
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Took minor nerfs to its Tier Set and primary single-target damage, but baseline damage was buffed to compensate. It remains an absolute powerhouse in Season 2 due to unmatched burst funnel damage, excellent crowd control, and incredible survivability.
Core Rotation: Accumulate 4 Arcane Charges using Arcane Blast and Arcane Orb. Line up Arcane Surge with Touch of the Magi, then unleash high-stack Arcane Barrage and Arcane Missiles procs into the target window. In AoE, substitute Arcane Explosion and Arcane Orb to spam high-charge Arcane Barrage.
Devourer Demon Hunter
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Received a significant baseline damage buff (+14%) while its tier set power was redistributed. Its front-loaded damage profile and massive AoE burst make it one of the absolute best specs for clearing dense trash pulls.
Core Rotation: Build resource via generators, trigger Reap/Cull mechanics to consume fragments, and dump power into high-priority targets. Maintain your core debuffs on the pack while weaving mobility-based attacks to sustain high-throughput AoE.
Balance Druid
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Continues to thrive thanks to strong baseline AoE tuning and invaluable group utility (Battle Res, Solar Beam, Typhoon, Mark of the Wild). It excels at uncapped multi-target damage on large pulls.
Core Rotation: Apply Sunfire and Moonfire across all targets. Enter Eclipse (Solar or Lunar) depending on pack size using Wrath or Starfire, then spend Astral Power on Starfall for AoE or Starsurge for single-target prioritization.
Arms Warrior
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Sitting comfortably at the top of the melee pack. Although bug fixes trimmed double-dipping Hero Tree mechanics, its raw single-target burst and execute-phase funneling make it vital for killing high-priority mob targets.
Core Rotation: Keep Rend and Deep Wounds applied via Thunder Clap / Mortal Strike. Maintain Overpower stacks to buff Mortal Strike, line up Avatar and Colossus Smash / Warbreaker, and dump rage into Execute or Cleave in AoE settings.
A Tier Classes
Unholy Death Knight
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Remained steady going into Season 2 with minor tuning fixes. Its ability to pull massive numbers on large packs during Dark Transformation and Epidemic makes it a reliable pick.
Core Rotation: Apply Virulent Plague to the pack. Build Festering Wounds on primary targets using Festering Strike, burst them with Scourge Strike / Clawing Shadows, and spam Epidemic on 3+ targets to melt density.
Elemental Shaman
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Received minor adjustments to smooth out damage distribution. It offers consistent uncapped AoE burst, fast cooldown resets, and party-wide utility via Skyfury, Lust, and short-cooldown interrupts.
Core Rotation: Spread Flame Shock, cast Primordial Wave, and generate Maelstrom with Chain Lightning. Spend Maelstrom on Earthquake for AoE or Earth Shock for single-target, fishing for Lava Burst procs (Lava Surge).
Havoc Demon Hunter
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Sustained small adjustments, keeping it solid. Excellent defensive profile, top-tier mobility, and strong passive cleave keep it very viable in mid-to-high keys.
Core Rotation: Use Immolation Aura and Fel Rush to generate Fury. Cast Eye Beam to enter Metamorphosis, then spam Blade Dance / Death Sweep and Chaos Strike / Annihilation on cooldown. Send The Hunt on major pulls.
Frost Mage
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Received minimal changes going into the season, making it one of the most reliable and forgiving ranged DPS options. It brings incredible, passive slows for dangerous trash packs.
Core Rotation: Maintain Frozen Orb and Blizzard in AoE. Cast Frostbolt to generate Fingers of Frost and Brain Freeze procs; consume procs with Ice Lance and Flurry to shatter targets.
Outlaw Rogue
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Received consecutive targeted damage buffs entering Season 2. Its non-stop cooldown reduction via True Bearing, high-uptime CC, and heavy target-cap cleave give it an elite utility kit.
Core Rotation: Keep Roll the Bones buffs active, apply Slice and Dice, and maintain Blade Flurry for AoE. Generate Combo Points with Sinister Strike / Ambush and dump them with Dispatch or Between the Eyes.
Subtlety Rogue
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Got a +6% baseline damage increase while tier-set power was trimmed down. It delivers surgical single-target burst to priority mobs inside trash packs, though it demands strict execution.
Core Rotation: Enter Shadow Dance, cast Shadowstrike to build Combo Points, and dump them into Eviscerate (or Black Powder for AoE). Maintain Slice and Dice and Rupture on priority targets.
Windwalker Monk
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Received consistent damage tuning. It boasts some of the highest burst AoE in the game, though squishiness in high keys requires smart usage of defensives.
Core Rotation: Alternate abilities to maintain Combo Strikes. Generate Chi with Tiger Palm, spend Chi on Rising Sun Kick, Fists of Fury, and Whirling Dragon Punch, weaving in Spinning Crane Kick procs on multi-target pulls.
Demonology Warlock
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Took a slight tuning nerf on paper, but its Tier Set was readjusted to compensate. Its consistent demon-swarming profile and strong durability keep it well inside Tier A.
Core Rotation: Build Soul Shards using Demonbolt and Shadow Bolt. Spend shards on Call Dreadstalkers and Hand of Gul'dan. On large packs, cast Implosion to sacrifice your Wild Imps for massive AoE burst.
Frost Death Knight
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Received a massive +9% baseline ability damage buff in August tuning passes. It trades a little tier-set power for huge raw damage, making its Pillar of Frost go-windows lethal.
Core Rotation: Apply Frost Fever via Howling Blast. Pop Pillar of Frost, use Obliterate to spend Runes (triggering Killing Machine procs), and spend Runic Power on Frostscythe / Glacial Advance in AoE or Frost Strike on single-target.
Feral Druid
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Suffered slightly from general melee tuning shifts, but retains strong bleed-cleave capability and great mobility.
Core Rotation: Apply Rake and Rip across multiple targets using Primal Wrath. Build Combo Points with Shred or Swipe, execute Tiger's Fury on cooldown for energy resets, and maintain bleed uptime.
Assassination Rogue
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Gained a +4% overall damage buff going into Season 2. Strong damage against small-to-medium pulls, but lags behind Outlaw in mass uncapped AoE.
Core Rotation: Spread Garrote and Rupture onto multiple targets out of stealth using Indiscriminate Carnage. Generate points with Fan of Knives in AoE and spend on Crimson Tempest or Envenom.
Enhancement Shaman
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Gained a +5% baseline aura buff. High burst potential, but squishiness and complex priority rotations hold it slightly behind Elemental in general key pugging.
Core Rotation: Keep Flame Shock active, generate Maelstrom Weapon stacks via melee swings and Lava Lash, then spend 5-10 stacks on instant Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning.
Affliction Warlock
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Received minor structural tuning. Outstanding multi-dotting damage on long-lasting packs, but struggles when trash mobs die too quickly to lower keys.
Core Rotation: Apply Agony, Corruption, and Unstable Affliction. Cast Vile Taint / Phantom Singularity to spread dots, then dump Soul Shards into Malefic Rapture to trigger burst damage across all dotted targets.
Destruction Warlock
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Received minor tier tweaks. Powerful 2-target cleave and huge Rain of Fire scaling, but requires tank positioning stability that isn't always present in pick-up groups.
Core Rotation: Apply Immolate, build Soul Shards with Incinerate and Conflagrate, then spend shards on Rain of Fire for packs (or Chaos Bolt for single-target priority).
B Tier Classes
Fury Warrior
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Buffed by +6% baseline damage and +10% tier-set Bloodthirst damage. Easy to play and very durable, but lower mass-AoE caps hold it in B Tier.
Core Rotation: Use Whirlwind to gain the cleave buff. Send Rampage whenever Enrage drops or at max Rage, filler with Bloodthirst and Raging Blow, and activate Avatar / Recklessness on cooldown.
Retribution Paladin
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Minor tuning shifts. Offers top-tier party survivability (Blessing of Protection, Freedom, Lay on Hands) and simple execution, but lags slightly in peak damage ceiling compared to S/A tiers.
Core Rotation: Build Holy Power with Blade of Justice, Judgement, and Cross Crusader. Spend Holy Power on Divine Storm (AoE) or Final Verdict (single-target) inside Avenging Wrath windows.
Marksmanship Hunter
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Unchanged in core functionality. Great burst out of stealth and straightforward execution, but poor defensive options make high keys dangerous.
Core Rotation: Open with Trick Shots mechanics via Multi-Shot or Volley. Cast Trueshot, fire Rapid Fire on cooldown, and dump Focus into Aimed Shot to ricochet damage across the pack.
Beast Mastery Hunter
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Received a direct buff to its 4-piece tier set (Cobra Shot / Beast Cleave interactions). Easy 100% mobile rotation, but overall damage tuning stays slightly behind the curve.
Core Rotation: Maintain 3 stacks of Frenzy on your pet using Barbed Shot. Use Multi-Shot every 4 seconds to maintain Beast Cleave in AoE, spending extra Focus on Kill Command.
C Tier Classes
Augmentation Evoker
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Explicitly nerfed compared to its dominant Season 1 state. While still decent in coordinated premade groups, its reduced stat-buff scaling makes it weaker in standard pug environments.
Core Rotation: Maintain Ebon Might on top damage-dealers. Cast Eruption to extend Ebon Might duration, channel Breath of Eons for group damage sync, and use Prescience on high-crit allies.
Fire Mage
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Fallen behind due to tuning shifts that favored Arcane. Highly dependent on huge, uninterrupted pulls during Combustion windows.
Core Rotation: Activate Combustion, convert Hot Streak procs with alternating Fire Blast / Phoenix Flames and Pyroblast (single target) or Flamestrike (AoE). Spreads Ignite passively.
Survival Hunter
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Lacks substantial Season 2 tuning buffs to move it up. High target-cap limitations and squishiness penalize it in higher keys.
Core Rotation: Apply Wildfire Bomb across targets. Build Focus with Kill Command, spread Internal Bleed / Lacerate, and spend Focus on Mongoose Bite / Raptor Strike or Cleave.
Shadow Priest
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Suffered heavily from cooldown flattening and tuning shifts in Patch 12.1. Lacks the fast-burst AoE required for modern Mythic+ trash pacing.
Core Rotation: Cast Shadow Crash to apply Shadow Word: Pain and Vampiric Touch. Enter Voidform / Dark Ascension, spend Insanity on Devouring Plague, and channel Mind Sear / Mind Flay: Insanity.
D Tier Class
Devastation Evoker
Season 2 Changes & Standing: Took severe hits from 12.1 cooldown adjustments. Damage drops off massively outside of Dragonrage, leaving it struggling to keep up with higher-tier ranged specs.
Core Rotation: Trigger Dragonrage, charge up Empower spells (Fire Breath and Eternity Surge), and dump Essence into Pyre for AoE or Disintegrate for single-target damage to extend cooldown durations.
