The Prey system is WoW Midnight’s newest endgame activity, giving players high ilvl gear by engaging in Midnight’s world without needing to raid or do Mythic+ dungeons. This activity is focused on solo activities that you can easily clear. This guide will show you the ins and outs of the Prey system and how you can get its rewards.
How To Begin Prey
First, you must finish WoW Midnight’s main story campaign to unlock this activity. Once you’re done, speak to Magister Astalor Bloodsworn, located underneath Murder Row in Silvermoon. This quest will have the purple important icon and will show you the basics. Once you’re done, you can interact with the Hunt table to select a target you want to kill. Selecting a target displays their rewards upon completing the Hunt and the skill modifiers they have for combat.
Once you have your target, accept the Hunt to begin.
Tracking Prey Targets
The location of your target will not be shown on the map immediately. To find them, you must gather Anguish, which can be obtained by doing Prey activities, world quests, rare monsters, and finding treasures in the zone they’re in. You can also find Coalesced Anguish randomly placed in the zone, which spawns an enemy that you can defeat for even more Anguish. Gathering enough Anguish fills the crystal on your UI.
Click on the crystal when it's filled up to pinpoint your target’s location on the map. When you reach the location, there will be a large crystal. Interact with it to begin the fight. This will put you in a mini-instance where other players cannot help you, so be prepared for a 1v1 duel to the death.
Slaying your Prey completes the Hunt and you can receive your rewards directly from the Quest tab. If you want to start another Hunt, you’ll have to return to Astalor and select another.
Unlocking Harder Prey
Before you can do the higher difficulty Prey, you must first meet the following requirements:
- Reach level 90
- Complete a Normal Hunt
- Finish Astalor’s quest after your first Hunt.
This will unlock Hard and NIghtmare difficulty Prey, which offer significantly better rewards.
Prey Rewards
You will obtain the following rewards for completing a Hunt:
- 1000 Preyseeker’s Journey
- 75 Coffer Key Shards
- 10 Dawncrest
- 1 Preyseeker’s Chest
The quality of the Dawncrests and chests depends on the difficulty you complete the Hunt on. Harder Hunts provide better quality rewards. This also contributes to your Great Vault progress as these count towards the World reward track.
