WoW Midnight enters its second season, and with it comes massive changes to the tank meta. Many felt that tanks in the first season were underpowered or railroaded into even fewer classes. But based on some PTR results, previously meta tanks have been brought down, and underwhelming ones have risen to the top. Here is the WoW Midnight Mythic + Tank Tier list for Season 2.
Score and Ranking Mechanics
Tanks will be scored in 4 categories, each worth 10 points. Regardless of the ranking, all Tanks are Mythic + viable, and the ranking should not discourage players from playing their preferred Tank.

WoW Midnight: Season 2 M+ Tank Tier List
S Tier
Blood Deathknight
Score:
- Durability: 10/10
- Damage: 10/10
- Utility: 10/10
- Fun: 10/10
Blood Deathknight went from being the least relevant tank in the last season to the most relevant tank for this season. It fits in any team comp; it's extremely tanky and reliable, with the most damage of all tanks. It should be noted that the Blood DK's damage tends to fall off when fighting against single-target enemies like bosses. But it's more than capable of handling the other enemies that spawn. Blood DK is capable of clearing high keys (+20) without much trouble even with a less than optimal team comp. Death Strike and Gorefiend's Grasp are such amazing utility tools that make this class the best Tank to play this season.
Guardian Druid
Score:
- Durability: 10/10
- Damage: 10/10
- Utility: 10/10
- Fun: 8/10
Guardian Druid is an amazingly tanky class with above-average single-target damage. Where it falls off against the Blood DK is its versatility. To get the best damage numbers from this class, it needs a good team comp. In some content, it requires a lot of communication; otherwise, the team will constantly wipe. It's still a solid overall class but just not as powerful or versatile as the Blood DK. To make the class feel truly S-tier, Guardian Druids need the optimal build, which often requires Apex.
A Tier
Protection Paladin
Score:
- Durability - 8/10
- Damage - 9/10
- Utility - 10/10
- Fun - 8/10
Even after the consecutive nerfs to this class, Protection Paladin is still one of the best classes in the game. Before the nerfs, it would have easily been S-tier, but even after, there is still a case to be made that it belongs in S-tier. Protection Paladin has access to some extremely influential and effective spells this season. The first of which is Righteous Protector, which is absurdly useful for keeping spell uptime. The second is Cleanse Toxins, which has historically been a must-have when running high-level Mythic+ content.
B Tier
Protection Warrior
Score:
- Durability - 8/10
- Damage - 7/10
- Utility - 10/10
- Fun - 6/10
Protection Warrior is in a tough spot in the meta, but not a bad one either. Compared to other tanks, this class fails to stand out or do anything significantly better. It has average damage and great durability, and it can do high-key mythic content. The class does stand out in group buffs. Certain team comps can play into this strength and get significantly more mileage from taking a Protection Warrior over any other tank. The Physical damage buff is a great addition to a lot of teams even if some would consider it a niche. It's a safe, stable pick without complicated timings or rotations.
Vengeance Demonhunter
Score:
- Durability - 7/10
- Damage - 7/10
- Utility - 10/10
- Fun - 9/10
VDH is in a rough spot. The only reason to take this class is for the magic buff that Chaos Brand provides. Otherwise, VDH just lacks and is severely inconsistent in most high-level content. Its damage is solid, but its durability is lacking, and it has limited utility and support, especially compared to other higher-tier tanks. The class lacks the CC it was once famous for, and it's only really viable when played with casters.
C Tier
Brewmaster Monk
Score:
- Durability - 6/10
- Damage - 9/10
- Utility - 6/10
- Fun - 8/10
Brewmaster Monk was the previous and sole occupant of S tier last season. However, the massive changes and nerfs have made this class feel almost irrelevant in high keys, though it's still viable for most runs. The mechanical complexity the class demands isn't worth the effort when other, less mechanically demanding tanks can achieve better results. BM lacks the durability other less meta tanks naturally have, which necessitates having a dedicated healer to increase the durability of Brewmaster Monks. The scaling changes and increased cooldowns of skills like Celestial Brew and Celestial Infusion have essentially turned this once extremely fun and rewarding tank into a button-mashing team liability.
