WoW Midnight Leveling Guide: The Fastest Route to Level 90

The Void has officially reached the shores of Quel'Thalas, and if you're reading this, you're likely staring at the Sunwell—or trying to ignore the deafening roar it's currently making.

World of Warcraft: Midnight has just launched, and the race to level 90 is on. Based on the first 24 hours of live gameplay, community reports from the front lines, and verified early data, here is the most efficient way to hit the new cap while staying ahead of the pack.

1. Pre-Flight Check: Essential Buffs & Gear

Before you dive into the campaign, you need to maximize your experience gains. Here are the confirmed XP modifiers currently active at launch:

Buff Name

Source

XP Bonus

Verified?

War Mode

Enlist in Orgrimmar/Stormwind

15%

✅ Confirmed

WHEE!

Darkmoon Faire Carousel/Roller Coaster

10%

✅ Confirmed

Warband Mentor

Passive bonus for alts (per max-level character)

Up to 25%

✅ Confirmed (Alts only)

Rested XP

Inns / Major Cities

Up to 150%

✅ Confirmed

📌 Important Clarification: The Warband Mentor bonus is NOT a temporary buff you activate. It is a passive account-wide bonus that automatically applies to any character below max level for each Level 90 character you already have on your account. For your very first Level 90 character, this bonus will start at 0%. It is designed specifically for leveling alts.

💡 Pro Tip: According to early adopters on Reddit, War Mode is highly recommended for the initial push. The zone layouts in Eversong Woods are surprisingly spread out, and the PvP talents for mobility (like Pursuit of Justice or Death from Above) save more time than the occasional skirmish costs. The 15% XP bonus is the cherry on top.

2. The Optimized Zone Order (80-90)

Midnight features a linear campaign for your first character. You must finish the campaign to unlock World Quests and endgame Delves. The level ranges are fluid, but this is the confirmed path:

Eversong Woods (80-82) — The mandatory intro.

  • Focus: Main Story Quest (MSQ) only.
  • Note: Use Gunshoes or Goblin Gliders during the "Sunwell Breach" segment where mounting is disabled.

Zul'Aman (82-85) — A combat-heavy zone.

  • Strategy: Don't get distracted by the Amani side quests unless they are directly on your MSQ path. Community consensus suggests this is where the "speedwall" happens due to high mob density.

Harandar / Arator Questline (85-88) — The choice.

  • Strategy: You can and should mix these two to break up the gameplay.
    • Harandar is better for solo players with high sustain (Warlock, Hunter, Demon Hunter).
    • The Arator chain (in the Eastern Kingdoms) is faster for high-mobility classes due to the Arator's Journey toy reward—a 1.5-minute cooldown Hearthstone. This is a game-changer for questing efficiency.

Voidstorm (88-90) — The final stretch.

  • Strategy: Mobs here jump to level 88+ immediately. If you arrive at 87, you will struggle. This is where you use the Delve Spike trick mentioned below.

3. The "Delve Spike" Trick (Level 88-90)

Early testers and YouTube guides have identified a massive XP spike strategy to bypass the slowest part of the grind. This is currently the most effective leveling method for alts (and savvy first-timers).

  • The Method: As you progress through the zones, you will encounter Delves (e.g., The Darkway, Atal'Aman, and 6 others). Each offers a Delver's Call quest inside.
  • The Trick: Complete the Delve and the quest, but do not turn it in.
  • The Payoff: There are 8 Delves total available at launch. Once you hit level 87 or 88 and enter Voidstorm, activate all your XP buffs (War Mode: 15%Darkmoon Faire: 10%) and turn in all 8 saved Delve quests at once.
  • The Result: This can instantly catapult you through nearly two full levels, bypassing the most dangerous mob scaling in the final zone entirely.

4. Dungeons: Only for the Quests

While dungeon spamming was the meta in previous expansions, it is not recommended as a primary method in Midnight.

  • Follower Dungeons: Avoid these entirely for XP. The AI tanks are currently confirmed to have major leashing issues. Official Blizzard forums report that followers frequently get stuck, fail to follow, and reset bosses, wasting massive amounts of time. Stick to the Group Finder if you must run one.
  • The Campaign Dungeons: You will need to run specific dungeons for the campaign. The confirmed set includes:
    • Windrunner Spire
    • Murder Row
    • Maisara Caverns
    • Blinding Vale
    • Den of Nalorakk
    • Magister's Terrace

💡 Strategy: Run these once via the Group Finder for the one-time quest XP, then get back to questing immediately.

5. First-Hand Gear Advice

Don't waste gold on the Auction House for pre-patch gear. It will be obsolete within hours.

  • Scaling: Midnight quest rewards scale aggressively. By level 84, your item Level 600+ The War Within Mythic gear will likely be replaced by green quest rewards.
  • Gathering = Free XP: Pick up Herbalism or Mining before you leave town. Collecting a single node in Quel'Thalas currently grants roughly 2,500 – 4,000 XP (depending on your active buffs). Over the course of the 80-90 journey, this adds up to a free level's worth of experience just for gathering while you quest. This is a widely confirmed community tactic and highly recommended.
