Valheim's progression centers on its bosses. Each one gates access to a new tier of resources, and finding them is half the challenge. There are 8 bosses in Valheim 1.0, culminating in the frozen wastes of the Deep North. To help you out, here's a guide on every boss in order: where to find them, what you need to summon them, and how to beat them.
All Boss Locations in Valheim 1.0
Valheim doesn't mark boss altars on your map by default; you'll need to find them yourself. Each biome hides a glowing runestone that reveals the altar's position when you interact with it. Never skip the runestone step, or you'll spend hours wandering. Here are all the boss locations, their summon requirements, and key rewards after defeating them.

How to Beat Every Boss in Valheim 1.0
Defeating each boss in Valheim takes careful preparation. You need the right weapon damage types and an understanding of how each boss's combat mechanics work. Since every biome introduces new environmental hazards and combat styles, walking into these fights without a strategy can halt your progress. To take them down easily, here's a strategy guide for each boss in Valheim 1.0.
|
Boss |
Detailed Strategy |
|---|---|
|
Eikthyr (Meadows) |
Eikthyr's lightning attacks hit much harder than they look. Stay mobile, use a basic wooden shield to block its physical charges, and keep your distance when it channels its area-of-effect electrical blast. |
|
The Elder (Black Forest) |
The Elder relies heavily on ranged vine attacks and root summons, but its wooden frame makes it extremely vulnerable to fire. You'll want to utilize the large stone pillars around the arena for cover, then pop out to shoot fire arrows until its health bar melts away. |
|
Bonemass (Swamp) |
Bonemass deals constant poison damage, so you've got to use a Poison Resistance Mead to keep your health from draining instantly. Because it resists pierce and slash damage, you should use a fully upgraded mace to exploit its weakness to blunt weapons while dodging its toxic sludge. |
|
Moder (Mountain) |
Moder spends most of the battle airborne, so you'll absolutely need a reliable, high-damage bow instead of waiting for rare landing windows to use melee attacks. You'll also need to equip frost resistance gear to counter the Mountain biome's passive freezing debuff during the fight. |
|
Yagluth (Plains) |
Yagluth hits exceptionally hard with fire and meteor attacks, making Fire Resistance Barley Wine a strict requirement so you don't burn to death. You'll want to dodge carefully when it raises its fists for meteor strikes, chipping away at its health safely between attack animations rather than rushing in aggressively. |
|
The Queen (Mistlands) |
Since The Queen strongly resists physical damage, you'll want to rely heavily on Eitr magic like the Staff of Embers. It's crucial to constantly clear out her summoned Seeker broods during the fight so you don't get overwhelmed and swarmed in the tight confines of her arena. |
|
Fader (Ashlands) |
The Ashlands is relentlessly aggressive, so you must clear out the surrounding enemies and establish a secure foothold before even starting the boss fight. Once engaged, you'll need to keep light on your feet and prioritize high mobility so you don't get caught in Fader's massive, sweeping green fire hazards. |
|
Kall Fimbulbringer (Deep North) |
Kall is a massive Frost Giant who breaks free into a brutal two-phase fight, swinging frost chains that deal heavy physical and freezing damage. You'll need top-tier stamina management, high frost resistance, and heavy reliance on dodge-rolling to avoid his sweeping attacks and claim final victory. |
