Raiders for the Desert Perpetual raid can look forward to the new Whirling Ovation exotic Strand / Solar Rocket Launcher, which has a unique firing mode unlike other exotic rocket launchers in Destiny 2. We’ll explain how Whirling Ovastion works with its exotic trait, perk, and what it specializes in.
Weapon Traits
This Rocket Launcher uses the Strand element and has no reserve ammo. Instead, it stores all its ammo within the magazine, similar to the Icebreaker sniper rifle.
Exotic Perk: Coronal Culmination
The perk states that shots can be charged by holding the fire button. When the shot is at half or full charge, it releases a delayed Solar blast. The longer the shot is charged, the more damage it deals.
Exotic Trait: Anticipation
Anticipation is a meter that dictates how fast a shot can be charged. This meter passively builds up over time, but dealing any weapon damage will increase the rate at which this meter charges. At full Anticipation, the next shot will charge up extremely fast.
Use Cases
Based on current damage testing, Whirling Ovation at full charge deals around the same damage as the Parasite exotic Heavy Grenade Launcher at max x20 Worm’s Hunger stacks. This makes Whirling Ovation great for Special weapon builds using Bait and Switch since the weapon synergizes with dealing raw weapon damage.
It’s also good for Special weapons with the Elemental Honing perk, as this weapon deals both Strand and Solar damage at the same time, giving it x2 stacks from the start.

The exotic only drops after defeating Keregos, the Worldline in the end reward chest. Beating the raid during contest mode will guarantee the exotic to drop. Completing certain raid Triumphs will increase the drop chance for Whirling Ovation. Since each character on your Destiny 2 account gets one chance per week, make sure to run the raid on all three classes for maximum odds."
