Dungeons are a concept many early MMORPGs capitalized on, making them an obvious pick to be included in the infant stages of WoW. They’ve stuck around for the 20-ish years we’ve had of Retail, a testament to how much players love them. In World of Warcraft: Classic, many players enjoy running Dungeons for loot, excitement, or to level up their characters. This guide will help you determine which dungeons you want to run by providing locations, suggested and minimum level requirements, the number of quests available, and a brief summary of the instance. It covers WoW Anniversary Edition all the way to the upcoming (at the time of writing) release of Mists of Pandaria.

WoW Classic (Vanilla) Dungeon Levels and Locations
There are 20 dungeons in WoW Classic, excluding the additions from expansions. Each one differs in difficulty and length; some are more worth it than others. Every dungeon has unique qualities, which will be skimmed over in this guide. All can technically be entered with a Raid party of 10 players in addition to the normal group of 5, excluding Blackrock Depths, alive and undead Stratholme, and Scholomance. Below, you’ll find each dungeon available in the WoW Anniversary edition. These dungeons are also available in mainstream WoW Classic.
Ragefire Chasm
- Location: Orgrimmar, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 13-18
- Minimum Level: 10
- Dungeon Quests: 6
Ragefire Chasm is a Horde-only dungeon. It’s like a practice run for Molten Core, with many of the same mechanics and a similar atmosphere. Its location makes it an exclusive dungeon–unless you’re brave and reckless enough to invade Orgrimmar as an Alliance player. Then, you can run the dungeon for loot…not recommended. If you really need that practice for Molten Core, though? Shoot your shot.
Wailing Caverns
- Location: Barrens, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 15-25
- Minimum Level: 10
- Dungeon Quests: 10
A maze-like dungeon that’s easy to get lost in. Truly, the most challenging part about this dungeon is simply navigating it! A 10-slot bag can drop in this dungeon, however, making this nightmare of a labyrinth worthwhile.
The Deadmines
- Location: Westfall, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 17-26
- Minimum Level: 10
- Dungeon Quests: 5
Despite its low level range, The Deadmines offers a challenge even to experienced players. Even the trash mobs can hit hard, and the main boss (Edwin VanCleef) will wallop whoever is unprepared when facing him. Often abbreviated as DM or some variation of VanCleef’s name.
Shadowfang Keep
- Location: Silverpine Forest, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 22-30
- Minimum Level: 14
- Dungeon Quests: 3
A dungeon that players love for its simple layout and cool loot. It’s also the dungeon for Paladin and Warlock-specific quests, which is fantastic for drawing in players of these two classes. Related to the origin story of the Worgen in Azeroth, this dungeon is also hailed for its atmospheric lore.
Blackfathom Deeps
- Location: Ashenvale, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 24-32
- Minimum Level: 15
- Dungeon Quests: 11
Similar to Wailing Caverns, this dungeon is easy to get lost in. However, monsters inside it have significantly more valuable loot, so it can be worth wandering around in as you find your way. Melee classes might want to avoid this one, though, because the disarm ability of many mobs can make it excessively difficult. Bring interrupts and a lot of patience!
The Stockade
- Location: Stormwind, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 24-32
- Minimum Level: 15
- Dungeon Quests: 6
This remains a somewhat unpopular dungeon due to its main boss rarely appearing. This boss is the only one that drops blue equipment, so this dungeon is often considered not worthwhile—especially for Horde players, who will have to venture into the Alliance capital just to be disappointed. Still, the instance is easy to complete, so it’s easy to run again and again for the drop.
Gnomeregan
- Location: Dun Morogh, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 29-38
- Minimum Level: 19
- Dungeon Quests: 7
Gnomeregan was the old capital of the Gnomes—hence the name. Now, it’s overrun by Troggs and Leper Gnomes (who are NOT your friends). Nothing is too special about it, but if you really enjoy playing as a laughably short race, you might as well pay your respects. And thank the Dwarves, this could be your starting zone if Dun Morogh wasn’t!
The Scarlet Monastery
- Location: Tirisfal Glades, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 26-45
- Graveyard Wing: 26-36
- Library Wing: 29-39
- Armory Wing: 32-42
- Cathedral: 35-45
- Minimum Level: 21
- Dungeon Quests: 7
One of the best mid-level dungeons. It has four wings with excellent drops and the chance for the entrance to become a PvP battleground! Each wing suits different players at different levels, making it a well-rounded pick. It may be in Horde territory, but that doesn’t stop Alliance players from coming to the dungeon. It’s that awesome.
Razorfen Kraul
- Location: Barrens, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 29-38
- Minimum Level: 25
- Dungeon Quests: 6
A thorny and quilboar-filled dungeon that can be time-consuming to complete. Adding to the annoyances above, its design is also frustrating. However, it does drop decent loot, and Warriors have a class-specific quest here. Herbalists also frequent this dungeon.
Maraudon
- Location: Desolace, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 46-55
- Minimum Level: 30
- Dungeon Quests: 8
Even though it’s one of the more extensive dungeons, people love it for its colorful and aesthetically pleasing design. The loot you can get from it is valuable too—one of the drops, a dagger called Blade of Eternal Darkness, has about a 10% chance to restore 100 mana in combat. The boss encounters may be frustrating, though.
Uldaman
- Location: Badlands, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 37-52
- Minimum Level: 30
- Dungeon Quests: 10
Lore is the main selling point of this dungeon, as its story is the only selling point, making the long and difficult journey worthwhile. Compared to the level range, its difficulty is spiked from the others. This dungeon is also quite large—get ready to sit at your computer for a while. Still, it can be nice to run a few times, especially for drops such as the Archaedic Stone ring.
Razorfen Downs
- Location: Barrens, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 37-46
- Minimum Level: 35
- Dungeon Quests: 7
Its overall atmosphere might be dark and dreary, but the excellent loot you can get from this dungeon will lift your spirits immediately. It’s located directly opposite Razorfen Kraul in the Barrens, so it should be easy to spot. Along with the thorns and shared lore, the abundance of quillboars is also a common point between the two dungeons.
Zul’Farak
- Location: Tanaris, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 42-46
- Minimum Level: 39
- Dungeon Quests: 7
The instance itself isn’t too remarkable, but it has unique boss fights due to its excellent mechanics. Be prepared to think, not just button smash! Additionally, Sul’thraze the Lasher’s components can be found within. Sul’thraze the Lasher is a powerful two-handed sword that deals shadow damage and weakens your target upon proc. Zul’Farak may seem a bit common, but don’t knock it until you try it.
Temple of Atal’Hakkar (Sunken Temple)
- Location: Swamp of Sorrows, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 50-56
- Minimum Level: 45
- Dungeon Quests: 8
Just like the area it’s located in, this temple is fascinating. As its subtitle implies, it is an underwater temple inhabited by trolls. Any fan of Ysera’s lore should try this dungeon. It’s filled with excellent loot and challenging bosses, though Shade of Eranikus could be…chaotic.
Blackrock Depths
- Location: Blackrock Mountain, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 52-60
- Minimum Level: 48
- Dungeon Quests: 41
The biggest of all dungeons in the game, Blackrock Depths sucks players in for more than one day. There are so many quests for it and excellent loot. You can run this dungeon to gear up your character for endgame raids!
Lower Blackrock Spire
- Location: Blackrock Mountain, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 55-60
- Minimum Level: 48
- Dungeon Quests: 11
It’s not as big as the above dungeon, but it still is pretty big. It’s tied to Onyxia’s Lair and the Upper Blackrock Spire dungeon. Two blacksmithing and one tailoring recipe can drop from this dungeon, so profession-driven players should stop by.
Upper Blackrock Spire
- Location: Blackrock Mountain, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 55-60
- Minimum Level: 48
- Dungeon Quests: 12
It’s the only 10-man dungeon that actually needs all slots filled. The others can be doable with fewer players, but this one needs all of them. Even prepared parties can still wipe in this instance. At this rate, it’s almost a raid rather than a dungeon. Ready for a challenge?
Dire Maul
- Location: Feralas, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 55-60
- Minimum Level: 48
- Dungeon Quests: 38
Origin of the infamous Tribute Runs. Dire Maul almost rivals Blackrock Spire in size due to its four distinctive wings. Each one is distinct from the other, making it a novel experience every time you move to another. All kinds of excellent loot come from this dungeon, so try it out!
Stratholme
- Location: Eastern Plaguelands, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 58-60
- Minimum Level: 48
- Dungeon Quests: 16
This is the place where Arthas Menethil slaughtered his own people. A historical land in any recount of Azeroth’s woes. It has two wings, though players treat them as separate instances. One deals with the living, and the other wing deals with the undead. Both offer top-tier loot as drops (such as the Postmaster’s Set) and plenty of lore.
Scholomance
- Location: Western Plaguelands, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 58-60
- Minimum Level: 48
- Dungeon Quests: 12
Similar to Stratholme’s undead wing, Scholomance is filled with necrolytes. It is set in a school of them, after all. If you’re up to the challenge, a ton of excellent loot can be obtained in this dungeon, including profession recipes for alchemists and tailors.
WoW Classic (The Burning Crusade) Dungeon Levels and Locations
With The Burning Crusade coming to Classic, some changes have come to dungeons. All dungeons are now maxed out at 5 players. Additionally, Heroic difficulty has been introduced, exclusively for max-level TBC characters. This next section of the guide will go over all the dungeons found in Outland.
Hellfire Ramparts
- Location: Hellfire Peninsula, Outland
- Suggested Level: 60-62
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 2
Found in a cluster of three dungeons, Hellfire Ramparts (also known as Ramps) takes place along the walls of the nearby Citadel, a former bastion of the First and Second Wars. Compared to Vanilla dungeons, this one has few bosses—a common theme going forward.
The Blood Furnace
- Location: Hellfire Peninsula, Outland
- Suggested Level: 61-63
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 2
Not to spoil the lore, but…okay, okay, The Burning Crusade was first released almost two decades ago. Wow, that makes a lot of players feel dated. Anyways, this is where the Fel Horde is exposed. The Blood Furnace is also connected to the Citadel and thus in the same cluster as Hellfire Ramparts—double-check that you’re in the right place!
The Slave Pens
- Location: Zangarmarsh, Outland
- Suggested Level: 62-65
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 1
A dark reminder of how the Broken toiled in misery. Despite seeming to be a base of military operations, the Slave Pens are somehow even more bleak. This dungeon is close to a few others, so check that you are where you need to be. Also, be prepared to swim.
The Underbog
- Location: Zangarmarsh, Outland
- Suggested Level: 62-65
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 4
Slavery isn’t the only thing happening in this place, which appears to be of military use. Flora, fauna, and all forms of resources are exploited in The Underbog, situated near The Slave Pens. Most mobs here are elementals or beasts.
Mana Tombs
- Location: Terokkar Forest, Outland
- Suggested Level: 64-66
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 3
If you’ve ever been interested in the Draenei of Azeroth, you absolutely must pay a visit to this dungeon, a reminder of all they have lost and endured. Ethereals fight for dominance of this area. Found north of the Ring of Observance.
Auchenai Crypts
- Location: Terokkar Forest, Outland
- Suggested Level: 65-67
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 2
Similar to the previously mentioned Mana Tombs, but with members of the Burning Legion vying for power more heavily. Found in the very center of Terokkar Forest.
Old Hillsbrad Foothills
- Location: Tanaris, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 66-68
- Minimum Level: 66
- Dungeon Quests: 6
Found in the Caverns of Time, this dungeon recounts Thrall’s imprisonment and features many recognizable characters. It takes place about 7-10 years before The Burning Crusade. Also known as Escape from Durnholde Keep or just Durnholde.
Sethekk Halls
- Location: Terokkar Forest, Outland
- Suggested Level: 67-69
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 2
Another dungeon related to Auchindoun, this one is similar to Mana Tombs and Auchenai Crypts, with the focus being the Arakkoa. Reins of the Raven Lord can drop rarely from a boss in this dungeon. Bring a Druid if you want your chance at this super cool mount!
The Steamvault
- Location: Zangarmarsh, Outland
- Suggested Level: 68-70
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 5
Still in the reservoir that could easily host armies, this dungeon is the heart of Lady Vashj’s drainage goals. A few mobs here have annoying mechanics, such as loss of control effects.
Shadow Labyrinth
- Location: Terokkar Forest, Outland
- Suggested Level: 69-70
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 5
Here, among what remains of Auchindoun, lies the Shadow Council’s ultimate strategic point for domination of Outland. A powerful defensive trinket intended for tank players can drop in this instance, making it worth running—especially with its proximity to other dungeons.
The Shattered Halls
- Location: Hellfire Peninsula, Outland
- Suggested Level: 69-70
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 3
The Shattered Hand clan, led by Khargath Bladefist, makes a residence here. With most mobs being humanoids, classes with CC abilities such as polymorph may find this dungeon to be quite easy, despite some of the enemies having the ability to heal their allies. Annoying, but not hard to handle.
The Black Morass
- Location: Tanaris, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 70
- Minimum Level: 66
- Dungeon Quests: 3
Another featured adventure found in the Caverns of Time, this dungeon recounts an attempt at opening the Dark Portal—which, if successful, would be bad. Very bad. Hourglass of the Unraveller drops in this dungeon, a powerful trinket for all DPS players to try at least once. If you’re down to navigate the Caverns of Time, this dungeon is quite fun!
The Botanica
- Location: Netherstorm, Outland
- Suggested Level: 70
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 3
Make sure to bring your Arcane resistance! As seen in the Retail rotation for Timewalking dungeons, The Botanica takes place in Tempest Keep, with a lot of angry plants ready to smack you down. If your team can purify diseases and poisons, though, this one can be a breeze. Just be prepared!
The Mechanar
- Location: Netherstorm, Outland
- Suggested Level: 70
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 2
Also in Tempest Keep, The Mechanar is vital to Kael’thas and his plan to summon Kil’jaeden. Minimal crowd control is needed for this dungeon, as it is incredibly short compared to many of the others. Very few pulls will have more than 4 mobs. Really, this is the dungeon you run with a soda in one hand and a head full of thoughts, because it won’t require much concentration.
The Arcatraz
- Location: Netherstorm, Outland
- Suggested Level: 70
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 3
More Tempest Keep stuff here. The name of this dungeon is fitting, as it was originally a prison. Now, though, the prisoners run loose due to corruption of the mind. Probably not what the naaru had in mind when they created Tempest Keep. Considered difficult by most players, you’ll need a sturdy tank, experienced healer, and melee DPS players who know how to GTFO! Also, crowd control abilities will not be much help. Good luck.
Magister’s Terrace
- Location: Isle of Quel’Danas, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 70
- Minimum Level: 55
- Dungeon Quests: 4
Famous for the rare mount drop, Swift White Hawkstrider, and the companion pet, Phoenix Hatchling, this dungeon is an absolute must for collectors. These rewards won’t come easily, but the glory is worth the gore.
WoW Classic (Wrath of the Lich King) Dungeon Levels and Locations
There are 16 dungeons available with Wrath of the Lich King. These dungeons can be entered at a higher difficulty once you reach level 80. Wearing a reputation tabard can make your dungeon experience more rewarding, as it's a great way to earn some extra rep. Here are all 16 dungeons, their location, level requirements, and features.
Utgarde Keep
- Location: Howling Fjord, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 70-72
- Minimum Level: 68
- Dungeon Quests: 6
Right by Utgarde Pinnacle, the first dungeon many players experience in Wrath of the Lich King is Utgarde Keep. Home to the Vrykul Dragonflayer clan. There are two popular routes to the entrance, one of which is much less dangerous. Pick your path—do you want to get warmed up or save your energy?
Azjol-Nerub
- Location: Dragonblight, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 72-72
- Minimum Level: 70
- Dungeon Quests: 3
This Nerubian stronghold couldn’t withstand the force of the Lich King. Dominated by the scourge and the faceless, with the former king slaughtered and made to do undesirable biddings, this dungeon is a testament to the darkness of this time.
Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom
- Location: Dragonblight, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 73-75
- Minimum Level: 70
- Dungeon Quests: 4
In the same vein as Azjol-Nerub. Amanitar, the last boss when playing on Heroic difficulty, is one that many players enjoy for the mushroom mechanics. Avoiding the green mushrooms and killing the grey ones will make this Heroic fight a breeze.
The Nexus
- Location: Borean Tundra, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 71-73
- Minimum Level: 68
- Dungeon Quests: 5
Non-linear and winding, this is the former seat of the Blue Dragonflight. Malygos, turned insane, has imprisoned Keristrasza here and caused tears in reality to bring anomalies out. For players who want to tackle bosses in any order they please, this dungeon is ideal—just remember, the final boss can only be engaged after the others have been defeated.
Drak’Tharon Keep
- Location: Zul’Drak/Grizzly Hills, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 74-76
- Minimum Level: 73
- Dungeon Quests: 4
The Drakkari seek aid to reclaim this place from the Lich King’s minions. Situated between two zones, Grizzly Hills and Zul’Drak. The quests can be accessed in Grizzly Hills, while the actual instance is in Zul’Drak. Confusing, yes.
The Violet Hold
- Location: Dalaran, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 75-77
- Minimum Level: 73
- Dungeon Quests: 3
Luckily, Legion has not come to Classic yet, so there’s no confusion about which Dalaran to go to—this one in Northrend, the Broken Isles, or the rubble it became during The War Within. In this dungeon, you will encounter 2 random bosses and then the final boss. This makes for a new experience every time!
Gundrak
- Location: Zul’Drak, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 76-78
- Minimum Level: 71
- Dungeon Quests: 4
Each boss, prior to the final boss, has an alter you need to interact with. If you don’t do them as you go, you’ll have to run back through the dungeon before finishing it. This dungeon has many shortcuts, most of which require swimming—fast. The waters here are hostile.
Halls of Stone
- Location: The Storm Peaks, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 77-79
- Minimum Level: 72
- Dungeon Quests: 2
Apparently, entrusting folks with the powers of titans isn’t always the best idea. Non-linear by design, the only rule is that you have to defeat the Tribunal of Ages encounter before advancing to the final boss. Brann Bronzebeard, found just inside the entrance, will be vital to your journey here.
Halls of Lightning
- Location: The Storm Peaks, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 79-80
- Minimum Level: 75
- Dungeon Quests: 4
If you can’t see the instance portal, just get a bit closer. Ulduar hosts both this dungeon and Halls of Stone, with this dungeon being marginally more difficult.
The Oculus
- Location: Borean Tundra, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 79-80
- Minimum Level: 75
- Dungeon Quests: 6
When selecting your dragon of choice for this dungeon, make sure to correspond it with your role. Tanks should choose red dragons, DPS should choose bronze, and healers should choose green. You can technically use your own mount…but you’ll fall to your death. Don’t ask why there are no blue dragons. It’s a sore subject here.
Utgarde Pinnacle
- Location: Howling Fjord, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 79-80
- Minimum Level: 75
- Dungeon Quests: 4
Remember Utgarde Keep? Yep, they’re right by each other. This dungeon has a fun quest that has you go around and collect various objects. Reins of the Blue Proto Drake can be obtained here, making this dungeon essential for collectors who don’t mind running this instance over and over.
The Culling of Stratholme
- Location: Tanaris, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 79-80
- Minimum Level: 75
- Dungeon Quests: 4
Found in the Caverns of Time, this dungeon hosts one of the easiest mounts to obtain in Retail WoW. However, obtaining the Reins of the Bronze Drake is a challenge in Classic. If you’re up for the task, make sure you’ve got a good group!
Trial of the Champions
- Location: Icecrown, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 79-80
- Minimum Level: 75
- Dungeon Quests: 1
A unique style of dungeon, the bosses you’ll face are different depending on your faction. Loot from this dungeon is exceedingly good, even on normal difficulty. The whole dungeon takes place in one large room. Fight your opponents from the opposite faction to see who has the strength to defeat the Lich King!
The Forge of Souls
- Location: Icecrown, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 79-80
- Minimum Level: 75
- Dungeon Quests: 3
The start of a three-dungeon trilogy. Horde players will aid Sylvanas, while Alliance players follow Jaina’s lead. One of the bosses in this dungeon can drop a 22-slot bag, making it a valuable run for those constantly needing more bag space—truthfully, we’ve all sacrificed some low-value items for space.
Pit of Saron
- Location: Icecrown, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 80
- Minimum Level: 80
- Dungeon Quests: 5
The second part of the aforementioned trilogy. Free prisoners from the choice between labor or a grisly demise, aid Sylvanas or Jaina, and see if you pick up the Battered Hilt quest item as you run this wing of the Frozen Halls of Icecrown Citadel.
Halls of Reflection
- Location: Icecrown, Northrend
- Suggested Level: 80
- Minimum Level: 80
- Dungeon Quests: 3
The last dungeon in this section and the last part of the Frozen Halls dungeon trilogy! Here, you’ll encounter the cursed blade Frostmourne and flee from the Lich King himself. Better to run as a coward than serve in death as a minion.
WoW Classic (Cataclysm) Dungeon Levels and Locations
Currently, these are the last dungeons in WoW Classic. Mists of Pandaria will add more upon release, though! At this point, all Cataclysm dungeons are playable. The Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep are revamped with new Heroic modes for level 85 characters, so make sure to revisit those two fan favorites. Now, here are all the dungeons introduced in Cataclysm, with locations, levels, and other information!
Blackrock Caverns
- Location: Searing Gorge, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 80-82
- Minimum Level: 77
- Dungeon Quests: 7
A popular choice for players still climbing to max level. While the closest flight points are not too terribly far, Blackrock Caverns can be made more accessible with a mole machine after completing the quest “This Can Only Mean One Thing…”
Grim Batol
- Location: Twilight Highlands, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 85
- Minimum Level: 84
- Dungeon Quests: 4
This place has an extensive history. Once a home for the Wildhammer dwarves, formerly a prison for Alexstrasza, and now a filthy domain of cultists. While this dungeon may look easy enough from the outside, don’t be fooled—the intricate interior is no joke.
Halls of Origination
- Location: Uldum, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 83-85
- Minimum Level: 83
- Dungeon Quests: 4
Formerly a research center for the Titans, Deathwing now has his eyes on this location for a dangerous device that could change life on Azeroth forever. Out of the seven bosses, many valuable pieces of loot can drop, including plenty of trinkets.
Lost City of the Tol’vir
- Location: Uldum, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 85
- Minimum Level: 83
- Dungeon Quests: 3
If you have skinning as a profession, this dungeon may make you a quick buck thanks to its frequency of beast mobs. Rich with Neferset lore, anyone interested in the history of Azeroth before World of Warcraft should try this dungeon.
The Stonecore
- Location: Deepholm, The Maelstrom
- Suggested Level: 82-85
- Minimum Level: 81
- Dungeon Quests: 4
Reins of the Vitreous Stone Drake can be acquired in this dungeon—on both difficulties and only the second boss! Essential for collectors. Deepholm can be accessed by portals in your capital city, so it is easy enough to get to.
Throne of the Tides
- Location: Vash’jir, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 80-83
- Minimum Level: 77
- Dungeon Quests: 2
One of the most fun dungeons in Cataclysm, Throne of the Tides (abbreviated frequently to Throne), has a plethora of interesting mechanics for you to navigate. Also, some of the achievements here are difficult but entertaining to attempt—Old Faithful being one example. Many trash mobs here will need interrupts, so keep that in mind as you compose your group.
The Vortex Pinnacle
- Location: Uldum, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 83-85
- Minimum Level: 82
- Dungeon Quests: 3
While aesthetically stunning, this dungeon hosts a variety of hostile forces. Reins of the Drake of the North Wind (that’s a mouthful) can be looted from the second boss. The drop rate isn’t too bad! Volatile Air is a frequent drop in this dungeon as well, making it excellent for gold farmers—especially with a treasure finding potion.
Zul’Aman
- Location: Ghostlands, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 85
- Minimum Level: 85
- Dungeon Quests: 4
From a 10-player raid to a 5-player dungeon, this instance has retained its epic loot. Companion pet Mojo and ground riding mount Amani Battle Bear can be acquired from this dungeon. It is Heroic only, so be warned that running this dungeon is no joke…especially if you want to complete a timed run for the mount!
Zul’Gurub
- Location: Northern Stranglethorn, Eastern Kingdoms
- Suggested Level: 85
- Minimum Level: 85
- Dungeon Quests: 9
Once a 20-player raid, this instance has been converted to a 5-player Heroic-only dungeon. If you don’t mind repeating the same dungeon for potentially months, you can farm the Swift Zulian Panther and Armored Razzashi Raptor—both of which have a drop rate below 1 percent.
Well of Eternity
- Location: Tanaris, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 85
- Minimum Level: 85
- Dungeon Quests: 7
One of the most difficult dungeons yet, defeating the powerful enemies found here will earn you gear several item levels higher than other Heroic 5-player dungeons. You’ll get to engage fully with early Night Elf lore—even fighting Queen Azshara!
Hour of Twilight
- Location: Tanaris, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 85
- Minimum Level: 85
- Dungeon Quests: 3
Also, much more challenging than other dungeons, this instance gives out some of the most powerful gear in Cataclysm. Fighting alongside Thrall in this dungeon is quite appealing to many players, as he’ll engage with the mobs you fight against and give your party unique buffs.
End Time
- Location: Tanaris, Kalimdor
- Suggested Level: 85
- Minimum Level: 85
- Dungeon Quests: 5
Once again, very challenging for most players. In this dungeon, you’ll fight corrupted, twisted versions of your faction leaders, including Jaina, Tyrande, Sylvanas, and Baine. You’ll also battle Nozdormu’s darkest self–Murozond.
WoW Classic (Mists of Pandaria) Dungeon Levels and Locations
Mists of Pandaria comes to Classic on July 21st, 2025. As we anticipate the arrival of the tranquil and alcoholic Pandaren, reaching level 90, and 7 new zones, we also look forward to reworks of Scholomance, Scarlet Halls, and Scarlet Monastery. 6 new dungeons will be available at release, as detailed below. Note that all information is tentative and may change before release.
Temple of the Jade Serpent
- Location: The Jade Forest, Pandaria
- Suggested Level: 85-87
- Minimum Level: 85
- Dungeon Quests: 2
The first dungeon most players will encounter in MoP, Temple of the Jade Serpent, is a popular pick for leveling due to how quickly it can be cleared and the ease of reentry. Interrupts are very important here!
Stormstout Brewery
- Location: Valley of the Four Winds, Pandaria
- Suggested Level: 85-87
- Minimum Level: 85
- Dungeon Quests: 2
While also useful for leveling, Temple of the Jade Serpent is more commonly used due to this dungeon having a lot of unskippable dialogue. You can collect Hopling, a cute companion pet, if you’re good at spotting, and don’t forget to visit Auntie Stormstout before starting–some groups will leave you in the dust.
Mogu’Shan Palace
- Location: Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Pandaria
- Suggested Level: 87-90
- Minimum Level: 87
- Dungeon Quests: 2
This dungeon would be quick and easy, but it's more unskippable roleplay than fighting. If you have Wisdom of the Four Winds and can fly in Pandaria, you can get to this dungeon easily. If you’re still working towards that, a side entrance is available. Be careful with the elevator. It has claimed more players than any boss could dream of.
Shado-Pan Monastery
- Location: Kun-Lai Summit, Pandaria
- Suggested Level: 87-89
- Minimum Level: 87
- Dungeon Quests: 3
Showing how hatred, doubt, and bloodlust can taint the most gentle of souls, Shado-Pan Monastery is a dungeon every player should run at least once. You can use a ground mount to travel in parts of this instance. It can be a good choice for grinding to level 90.
Gate of the Setting Sun
- Location: Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Pandaria
- Suggested Level: 89-90
- Minimum Level: 89
- Dungeon Quests: 2
With few trash mobs and hard-hitting bosses, this dungeon is full of mechanic-heavy fights. Located near a neutral flight point and on top of the wall dividing the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and the Dread Wastes.
Siege of Niuzao Temple
- Location: Townlong Steppes, Pandaria
- Suggested Level: 90
- Minimum Level: 90
- Dungeon Quests: 2
The last dungeon you’ll encounter in the release of Mists of Pandaria. You’ll need a group that can maneuver well, as a lot of the mechanics in Siege of Niuzao Temple are movement-related, including a whirlwind and a debuff that requires you to move or be frozen. Often enjoyed for how fun—or challenging—the mechanics can be.
Concluding Thoughts
With all of the knowledge you need for a basic understanding in this guide, you can figure out which Dungeons you might want to try first. Maybe you’ll go for the easy ones, challenge yourself to tackle Heroic Dungeons, or even farm for extremely low drop chance loot that you might be able to obtain at some point this decade. Make sure to check for full guides for each dungeon—or ask an experienced player to join your group as a teacher. Running Dungeons over and over for rare loot or to level can get boring, so play some music or watch a show as you do it…or talk to your friends, if you have some.
