Space Marine 2 allows you to play as a Space Marine fighting against the Tyranids or the Heretics depending on the campaign. In the game, you're accompanied by other Space Marines, but they’re all NPCs who’ll only do the bare minimum in campaign mode. However, the game features a multiplayer system that allows you and your friends to team up and fight as a squad to defend the Planetary Defense Base.Here’s a guide on how to unlock multiplayer and all its modes to play with your friends.

How To Access Multiplayer
To access multiplayer mode, you’ll first need to reach the Battle Barge. To get there you’ll need to complete the intro mission “Rain of Terror.” Once that’s finished, you’ll be able to get access to the Battle Barge.
At the Battle Barge, head to the Landing Bay near the console that’s closest to the hanger and interact with it. This will then lead you to the game mode menu, where you’ll be able to choose to play Operations, Eternal War, or the Campaign. When selecting a mode, the game will be put into matchmake and go in a session.
To invite other players into your team, you’ll need to go to the Invite menu of the game and click the Edit Squad button. This will then take you to a menu screen with a 5-digit code. Send the code to your friends who can then input it in the Join the Squad bar in the menu tabs.
Along with multiplayer, players can crossplay matches with players from Steam, Epic, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Crossplay is only available for PvE game modes such as Operations and Campaign. To avoid any imbalance in the PvE game modes, crossplay is limited, which means PC players can only play with other PC players and Console players can only play with other console players. If you want to turn off crossplay, the game allows you to disable it.
Multiplayer Game Modes
Space Marine 2 has plenty of game modes to choose from. Whether it's a Campaign, PvE, or PVP, you can enjoy being a Space Marine with your friends. Here are all the Multiplayer game modes in Space Marine 2.
Narrative Campaign
This campaign mode of the game is available for multiplayer. You can co-op with two of your friends for a three-player narrative campaign. If you’re the one inviting friends to join your team, you’ll play as Lieutenant Titus in the game and the two others will play as his battle brothers, Gadriel and Chairon.
Operations Mode (PvE)
Operations is the game’s PvE game mode where you can play repeatable missions to gain Requisition and Armory Data to upgrade and customize your armor or weapons. This game mode can be played with two other players for a three-player co-op. The missions may vary in difficulty and your rewards will reflect that. The higher the difficulty the higher and better the rewards received. In Operations you can choose which class to play to fit your play style and also customize your weapons and armor to your liking.
Eternal War Mode (PvP)
Eternal War is the PvP game mode of Space Marine 2 that allows you to be put into team based 6v6 matches. In this game mode, you’re allowed to choose which class to play, whether its Assault, Vanguard, Sniper, Bulwark, Tactical or Heavy. Feel free to play your best class or play around and test the other classes. Eternal War provides you with 3 game types, including:
Annihilation
Annihilation is pretty much a team deathmatch game. Each team will compete to reach 50 points to win the match. Each kill or takedown will earn 1 point for your team. There are 3 maps available for Annihilation and more will be added in the future.
Seize Ground
Seize Ground is a game type where the two teams need to keep control of a zone. The zone will be moving around the map during the match. The team needs to maintain the zone to earn points. This game type is similar to domination from other shooters. Seize Ground has 3 maps available to play on.
Capture & Control
For Capture & Control the team will need to control 3 zones on the map. Players will need to keep control of these zones in order to gain points. The first team to reach the needed points wins the match. Same as the other two game types, this game only has 3 maps, but more will be added later.
