Marvel Rivals pros have given every hero some extensive playtesting, and some have risen to the top tiers with consistent bans on Ranked and others falling out of use in their roles. Here are the rankings for every hero in Marvel Rivals and how they became so meta. These ranks are from Season 8.5’s balance updates, which means rankings may change come Season 9.
S-Tier
|
Hero |
Reason |
|---|---|
|
Cyclops |
His kit is simple to use and easy to deal solid damage with, making him one of the best poke DPS heroes in the game without requiring too much commitment to mastering his gameplay. |
|
Groot |
Groot’s walls have not been changed, still maintaining their powerful utility of isolating supports from their tanks. |
|
Gambit |
Gambit’s hybrid role of Strategist and Duelist with his Hearts and Aces decks can make him an oppressive hero against his enemies if you can master his ability kit. His anti-heals are enough to deter dives and punish tanks. |
|
Phoenix |
In a poke meta, Phoenix absolutely dominates, especially in chokepoint battles, as she can easily burst down tanks and clean up fights with just her neutral game. |
|
Invisible Woman |
Occupying both as a shield and health regen support, Invisible Woman can save her teammates from burst damage with her on-demand frontal shield. She also has the invaluable ability to escape from an enemy dive and reposition to safety. |
|
Emma Frost |
Emma Frost is a great pick for any team matchups. Despite being a tank, Emma Frost can dish out massive bursts of DPS and control objectives with her CC skills. |
|
Devil Dino |
Devil Dino’s self-sustained role makes him a powerful Vanguard, requiring minimal aid from his team’s support. With his passive Bleed effects, he can even wear down tanks, and pressure enemy supports into ignoring their DPS’s health sustain. |
|
Doctor Strange |
While solid as a tank on his own, a lot of his value comes from his Team Up synergies with Invisible Woman, Magik, and Scarlet Witch. He also has great repositioning utility with his portals for his team to use, and some flight for verticality |
A-Tier
|
Hero |
Explanation |
|---|---|
|
Angela |
Angela is great at pestering the backline or forcefully repositioning the enemy into more vulnerable spots to help her team get picks. While she is a Vanguard, she is better as an off-tank since she lacks the survivability to stay on the frontline. |
|
Magneto |
Magneto provides high defensive utility and an ultimate that threatens characters with Ult Durations, though he is easily countered by melee-oriented team comps. While effective, Magneto requires a level of micromanagement to be truly effective in fights. |
|
The Thing |
The Thing can remain on the front line for a long time due to its easily sustained damage reduction. He is a good tank against dive heroes as he can peel for his Strategists. |
|
Hela |
Hela fits perfectly in the glass canon role, excelling in 1v1 duels and low-health target picks in the enemy backline. Her ultimate can easily secure objective areas, though she can be punished easily with a dive if she takes a bad position. |
|
White Fox |
White Fox is Gambit without the anti-heal debuffs, emphasizing pure healing output instead. She is the only Strategist who can go toe-to-toe against a diver but still requires her team to punish them effectively. |
|
Cloak and Dagger |
Cloak and Dagger haven’t changed much in Season 8.5, still remaining as an easy-to-play support while not being too effective to beat dives. While they have decent mobility, they can easily be punished once they are focused down. |
B-Tier
B-tier heroes have a good balance of strengths and weaknesses. Each hero has a bit of a skill curve to use, but can be considered A-tier if you can master their playstyles. They do not see as many bans as S-tier heroes, so you have more opportunities to play them in ranked matches.
- Captain America
- Groot
- Rogue
- Punisher
- Winter Soldier
- Daredevil
- Magik
- Loki
- Luna Snow
- Venom
- Thor
- Hawkeye
- Blade
- Namor
- Star Lord
- Mr Fantastic
- Black Panther
- Rocket Raccoon
- Jeff the Landshark
C-Tier
Heroes in this tier still provide something useful to their team with their abilities and ultimates, but each requires a specific playstyle to really get the most out of their value.
- Hulk
- Elsa Bloodstone
- Wolverine
- Scarlet Witch
- Psylocke
- Moon Knight
- Human Torch
- Ultron
D-Tier
|
Hero |
Explanation |
|---|---|
|
Black Cat |
The nerfs to Black Cat have gutted her overall effectiveness, as her damage, survivability, and resource generation have taken a massive downgrade. |
|
Squirrel Girl |
Squirrel Girl is too reliant on the right positioning and the absolute best aim to reliably win most matches. She cannot consistently take picks like other top-tier Duelists. |
|
Black Widow |
Other Duelists occupy the same ranged poke DPS role that Black Widow does, but better and easier in execution. Half of her kit is useless as it requires her to be in melee range, while her actual ranged damage is subpar. |
|
Iron Man |
Iron Man’s overall DPS is great on its own, but he can be a nightmare for allied Strategists as he can take angles that may be too difficult for support to reach. He can also be easily picked off with CC by coordinated teams, making him struggle in higher-ranked lobbies. |
|
Adam Warlock |
Despite his powerful ultimate, Adam Warlock asks for too much skill with little reward for mastering him. For a support hero, his healing output is too weak and infrequent to justify bringing him in high elo matches. |
|
Iron Fist |
With so many anti-dive heroes available, Iron Fist became a risky hero to take for getting picks, as coordinated teams can easily shut him down and render his threat to the backline moot. While he is good at 1v1 fights, he will struggle a lot if caught alone. |
|
Spider-Man |
Spider-Man suffers the same issue as Iron Fist, being a dive hero in a time when anti-dive characters are readily available. Even worse, he lacks the self-sustaining abilities that Iron Fist has, making him overly reliant on healing pickups and his supports. |
|
Mantis |
Mantis occupies a precarious spot for support, as she lacks any mobility skills needed to avoid enemy dives. This makes her extremely vulnerable in many situations. While her actual abilities are useful, her team will have to constantly peel for her to maintain her buffs. |
|
Storm |
Storm’s role as a support / DPS hybrid is redundant when Gambit fills the role far better. Her damage output is too weak to reliably get picks, and her default flight makes her just as vulnerable as Iron Man and Ultron. |
|
Peni Parker |
In attacking teams, Peni is nearly useless, and her ultimate offers little value. However, she excels in defense-oriented objectives and routes. When it comes to mastering a Vanguard, it's better to try to learn more versatile heroes. |
Deapool: A-Tier Vanguard, B-Tier Strategist, C-Tier Duelist
Deadpool uniquely occupies all three roles but excels at only one: Vanguard. His role as a Vanguard is great as he can easily disrupt the enemy team with Taunts and his katana slashes to dive backlines. His Strategist variant is viable, but requires more effort on your part to match the same level of healing as other full-time Strategists. His Duelist variant is the weakest, as his Ultimate relies on his enemies missing all their skillshots. In higher elos, this ultimate falls significantly in value.
