Best Dragonflight Mounts in World of Warcraft

Best Dragonflight Mounts

The list of collectibles never ends when you’re playing World of Warcraft. At its core, World of Warcraft has over 800 collectibles for you to collect, with the Dragonflight expansion adding more to the table. It’s no surprise that an MMO that’s existed for over two decades would have this much to sift through, but it’s always nice to see more mount options in the game in particular. One of the biggest status symbols in the game are mounts. Players who managed to get the reigns of Invincible in WotLK were considered Gods on their server.

42 new mounts were introduced in the Dragonflight expansion’s release, many of which have incredible designs. Some were created explicitly for the Dragonriding ability, but nonetheless, the others are just as impressive. This guide will outline the best Dragonflight mounts you can get in World of Warcraft.

What Are Mounts in Dragonflight?

Mounts in World of Warcraft not only give a practical purpose to the game, but they also give players a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Who wouldn’t want to ride on a cool-looking dragon instead of walking on foot like normies?

Mounts are rideable creatures players can use to improve their in-game movement speed, allowing them to traverse through Azeroth and other regions faster than on foot. Mounts can make in-game activities such as quests and exploration easier. Besides the practical side of things, the diverse and unique appearances of mounts are undeniably attractive. Players often collected them to match their character’s role-playing concept or theme or to fit with a certain aesthetic.

World of Warcraft Dragonflight players can craft or buy mounts in the in-game auction house. This makes them valuable commodities, turning them into viable options for farming WoW gold or trading.

The Best WoW Dragonflight Mounts to Get

Liberated Slyvern

You might have seen Breezebiter flying around with this mount whenever he spawns in the world, almost as if he’s taunting the plebs that must walk on foot. To be fair, seeing the Liberated Slyvern can make almost anyone green with envy. It’s a mount with a low chance of dropping as loot from Breezerbiter—a rare enemy—in The Azure Spawn. This makes the Liberated Slyvern one of the rarest mounts to get in the Dragonflight expansion.

Magmashell: An Easy Dragonflight Mount to Get

WoW Dragonflight prides itself in letting players ride on the backs of imposing beasts and towerings that can easily tower characters, but sometimes it can feel overrated. Why not just hitch a ride on the back of a lava snail instead? The best part is that the Magmashall has this adorable animation where it’ll recoil back in its shell and even do a couple of spins for you, looking cute in the process. And if you’re worried about your snail friend getting the short end of the stick when it comes to speed, don’t be—it can easily keep up with the other ground mounts, even if it’s a snail.

The great thing about the Magmashell is that it’s one of the easier mounts to acquire in this list. You just have to start looting Empty Magma Shells from the Basalt Shell or Lavaslurper in the Obsidian Citadel. Then, go to the Empowered Snail near the bottom of the Scalecracker Keep and interact with it. Congrats! You now have a precious new friend.

Winding Slitherdrake

Dragonriding is one of the best additions in the Dragonflight expansion, so it’d be a shame not to take advantage of it while riding a dragon. The Winding Slitherdrake is a reward from the Embers of Neltharion campaign, specifically in Chapter 5.

You must first complete the first four chapters of the campaign. Once you’re about to start the fifth chapter, you only need to pick up the quest from Ebyssian on the top of the Seat of the Aspects. After that, follow the quest chain into the Zaralek Cavern until you arrive at the Siltherdrake Roost. You’ll encounter some Neltharion loyalists poaching creatures here, which you’ll have to eliminate before getting the Winding Slitherdrake mount and completing the chapter.

Cobalt Shalewing

Shalewings aren’t anything new in World of Warcraft, but what if they were raised in the Zaralek Cavern, where pale blue underlight glows? The result would be the Cobalt Shalewing. The mix of purples and blues around the creatures makes this mount an eye-catcher. You’d be sporting looks from other players if you had this mount. The only catch is that it’s only dropped by world elite Karokta in the Zaralek Caverns, making it extremely rare since it has a low drop rate.

Pattie

Say dragons, snails, or shalewings aren’t your thing; you prefer something more cuddly. Pattie is the solution to your problems. Starting August 31, as per Patch 10.1.5, World of Warcraft Dragonflight will offer daily clues and secrets to help you uncover the culprit of a recent string of artifact thefts while the Secrets of Azeroth event is active.

Players can earn many goodies during the event, one of which is Pattie—provided that you solve all the secrets. The final clue for Secrets of Azeroth will be revealed on September 13, but you don’t worry about a time limit or anything when trying to complete it, as the event isn’t going away. That’s right—you can earn the behatted alpaca mount regardless of the date!

What to Keep in Mind While Getting Dragonflight Mounts

Remember that if you plan on getting PvP mounts, some are only available after the completion of World of Warcraft Dragonflight Season 2. For example, the Mythic+ Inferno Armoredon only became available after May 9, 2023. Besides that, the other mounts in this list can either be obtained through quests, drops, or events.
