All Biomods in Subnautica 2 and Where To Find Them

Subnautica 2 sees the introduction of Biomods that enhance your character’s gameplay, like a dash while underwater and reduced oxygen consumption when not moving. There are also passive biomods that give some much-needed QoL for your exploration needs. This guide will show you every Biomod in the game and how you can obtain them.

Getting the Bioscanner

The Bioscanner is your key tool to unlocking Biomods, as most of them can only be unlocked by scanning the creature associated with the mod you want. To craft one, you will need a Scanner, 2 Enamel Glass, and 3 Conduit Crystals.

Dash/Pathfinder

The Dash Biomod allows you to dash in a direction of your choosing to avoid predators, while Pathfinder makes you leave behind a trail of glowing particles to mark the places you’ve already been to. You can find these mods inside the first ruined biolab around 100 meters near the lifepod you first spawn in.

Sonic Echo

When you have Sonic Echo equipped, you can use it to emit a sonic wave that will highlight nearby resources for you, making material gathering much easier, especially in dark areas. This Biomod is unlocked by scanning a Collector Leviathan, which can be found in either the Sparse Plains or Karakorum Metal Farm.

Electric Discharge

The Electric Discharge Biomod gives you the ability to release a bolt of electricity at a target creature, deterring it from trying to attack you. You can unlock this mod by scanning an Electric Geordie, which spawns in Observatory Island, Power Plant, and Root Canyon.

Chum Cloud

The Chum Cloud mod, when activated, releases a cloud of bait that can be used to distract predators with food. To unlock the mod, you will need to scan a Toxic Sponge and a Houndgar. Toxic Sponges are commonly found in the Coral Gardens, while Houndgars can be found in the Graveyard.

Seaskimmer / Oxygen Control

These two passive mods are unlocked by default and are quite useful for any stage of the game. The Seaskimmer mod will increase your swim speed when you are swimming next to a surface or the floor. Meanwhile, the Oxygen Control mod passively reduces your oxygen consumption rate when you stand still.

Bioluminescence

This Biomod causes you to glow in the dark when equipped. This not only lights dark areas for you, but it also alters the behaviour of certain creatures. To get this mod, you will need to scan an Electric Geordie and a Sandspear. The latter can be found in the Anemone Hills biome.

Camouflage

This Biomod renders you invisible to all predators when you’re staying still, making it the perfect tool for exploring dangerous areas early. Camouflage can be obtained by scanning a Bullethead, which can be found on Observatory Island and in the surrounding areas near the Root Canyon.

Water Retention

The Water Retention Biomod increases the hydration you gain from all sources, giving your consumables more value for staying hydrated. This mod is obtainable by scanning a Coral Crab found in the Coral Gardens biome.

Homing Sense

Homing Sense gives you the ability to detect nearby underwater bases for finding new blueprints. The mod requires a Surge Jelly and Hammerhead scan to unlock. A Surge Jelly can be found around 170 meters southeast of the Life Pod, while Hammerheads can be found in the Coal Gardens.

Threat Sense

Unlike Homing Sense, Threat Sense helps you locate nearby hostile creatures. When a predator is near, you will hear an audible beeping that beeps faster as it gets closer. You will need to scan a Hoverthorn, which can be found north of the Alien Ruins.

Dermal Garden

This mod makes you passively generate algae blocks in your inventory, which serves as a renewable food source for when you’re going on long expeditions. Dermal Garden requires a Needler Mango scan to unlock, which can be found in the Needler Nest in the Karakorum region.

Slow Metabolism

The Slow Metabolism mod reduces your hunger rate, making your food supplies last longer. You will need to scan a Nibbler Mango, which makes its habitat in the Coral Gardens.

Water Secretion

Like the Dermal Garden mod, Water Secretion passively adds drinkable water to your inventory every 3 minutes. You can obtain this mod by scanning a Water Slug, which are abundantly found in the Coral Gardens.
