1-99 Summoning Guide

Summoning

RuneScape 1-99 Summoning Guide

Many features in RuneScape are hidden behind their subscription system. These things include many activities and abilities to help players enhance their gaming sessions. One of the member-exclusive professions that many players want is Summoning. This ability lets members summon their familiars, providing various utilities to their owners, such as helping them in combat or carrying their inventory. If you are interested in subscribing to RuneScape or already are, this guide will help you optimize and use this unique profession.

Basics of Summoning

There are tons of various companions that Summoners can conjure to their side. However, the ability to bring forth these creatures depends on what and how many pouches you have. These items are the ones that members use to summon specific familiars. If you want to train in this profession, you need to expand the list of pets you can call from the Spirit Plane.

While you would want to acquire tons of pouches, there are level requirements to make you eligible to use them. This condition means you need to level up your Summoning to give you more access to specific familiar. Unfortunately, the grind to higher ranks can be quite tedious and expensive.

The primary method to level up Summoning is to craft pouches. Players will need four ingredients to make one, with three of them varying in amount or type. Here are all the available materials necessary to make summoning pouches:

  • An empty pouch
  • Spirit Shards
  • Charms
  • A tertiary ingredient.

Among the four of these, the charms are considered the hardest ones to obtain and will require the most effort. While you can buy pouches from the general exchange, you will not gain EXP from purchasing. Members are encouraged to make their summoning materials level up.

All Summoning Pouches Based on Charms

As mentioned earlier, Charms are the bottleneck materials that would hinder your progression in training in this profession. These materials can be acquired through slaying monsters or gained through other activities such as buying them with exceptional currencies. Here are all the available Charms in the game:

Gold Charm

This material is considered the lowest of the four Charms. They are the only ones available to unsubscribed members and do not have any summoning requirements. Here are all the related Summoning Pouches to the Gold Charm:

  • Spirit Wolf
  • Dreadfowl
  • Spirit Spider
  • Thorny Snail
  • Granite Crab
  • Spirit Mosquito
  • Bull Ant
  • Spirit Terrorbird

  • Tier 1-3 Bloodrager (Dungeoneering only)

Green Charm

This Charm is the second-tier material in the four primary types. They can be acquired through several means, including Zeal Points. Farming EXP using this Charm can be inefficient, so most trainers use other materials. Here are all the Summoning Pouches that can be crafted with this item:

  • Desert Wyrm
  • Compost Mound
  • Beaver
  • Void Ravager
  • Macaw
  • Spirit Cockatrice
  • Spirit Guatrice

  • Tier 4-6 Bloodrager (Dungeoneering only)

Crimson Charm

The Crimson is the third type of considerable charm available in RuneScape. Some familiars under this tier provide the most experience points among all the pouch creation processes. The Talon Beast pouch is the one that gives the most significant amount of EXP, which is greater than any Blue Charms. Here are all the related familiars for the Crimson material:

  • Spirit Scorpion
  • Spirit Tz-Kih
  • Vampyre Bat
  • Honey Badger
  • Evil Turnip

  • Tier 7-8 Worldbearer (Dungeoneering only)
  • Tier 7-8 Skinweaver (Dungeoneering only)
  • Tier 7-8 Bloodrager (Dungeoneering only)

Blue Charm

This charm is considered the fourth and rarest among all the major types in RuneScape. The methods of acquiring one are tedious and require players to be at a high level. However, the EXP gains from any pouches under this tier are worth the effort because they all provide experience. Here are all the familiars that can be created with the Blue Charm:

  • Albino Rat
  • Spirit Kalphite

  • Tier 9-10 Bloodrager (Dungeoneering only)

Special Pouches

There are a bunch of other pouches that can be created or acquired outside of the four primary charms. These include doing quests with rewards, farming particular types of charms, or dungeoneering. Here are the different types of unique pouches:

Elder Charms

This charm is a particular type that has limited uses. It is separate from the four primary materials since it is not used for leveling up Summoning. You mainly do this part to collect the related familiars under this tier. Here are the pouches you can create with Elder Charms:

  • Nightmare Muspah
  • Blood Nihil
  • Ice Nihil
  • Shadow Nihil
  • Smoke Nihil

Ancient Summoning

These familiars require you to create binding contracts and a special pouch using Blue Charms. They are unique because they need extra steps to craft. Here are all the Ancient Summoning pets:

  • Hellhound
  • Waterfiend
  • Blood Reaver
  • Gargoyle
  • Abyssal Demon
  • Kal'gerion Demon
  • Ripper Demon

Training to Level 99

The grinding process from levels 1 to 99 is separated into two activities: farming charms and craft pouches. If you are okay with spending RuneScape gold, you can skip the first one and buy them from the marketplace. If you choose to spend money, it is estimated that you will be spending around 80 million gold.

You should know where to farm specific charms if you have less gold. Various mobs drop each type, so learning which has one can help you navigate through your training. Here are the sources for each Charm Type:

  • Gold Charm
    • Gelatinous Abomination (41%)
    • Rock Crabs (10%)
    • Moss Giants (40%)
    • Ice Giants (56%)
    • Goblins (11%)
    • Giant Rock Crabs (80%)
    • Rock Lobsters (16%)
    • Hellhounds (68%)
    • Troll Brute
    • Kalphite Queen
  • Green Charm
    • Rock Lobsters (9%)
    • Bork (2-11/hour)
    • Cave Bug (40%)
    • Kalphite Queen
  • Crimson Charm
    • Black Demons (44%)
    • Rock Lobsters (24%)
    • Waterfiends (79%)
    • Gladii (150/hour)
    • Bork (7-23/hour)
    • Tormented Demons (1-2 per kill)
    • Glacors (3 per kill)
    • Greater Demons (200/hour)
    • King Black Dragon (115/hour)
    • Kalphite Queen
  • Blue Charm
    • Bork (5-20/hour)
    • Tormented Demons (1-2 per kill)
    • Glacors (3 per kill)
    • Exiled Kalphite Guardians
    • Kalphite Queen

There are three alternative options if you find grinding too many mobs tedious. However, some of these activities require you to gain high levels in their respective professions. Here are your other options for farming charms:

  • Firemaking
  • Hunting Spirit Implings, Charming Months, and Charm Sprites
  • Thieving

Where to Farm

Now that you know which monsters drop charms, you must know which pouches you should craft at certain levels. Players should note that they prioritize going for either Crimson or Blue Charm craftables if appropriate for that level. Gold should be your last option and only be crafted when no other choice exists. However, it would be more appropriate to save your Red and Blue ones at earlier levels until you reach level 40 and above. Here are the Summoning Pouches you should create per bracket:

Tips for Summoners

  • Wear Spirit Gems – These items give players a slight chance of not consuming charms when they craft pouches. These accessories will be a great help if you save money and time.
  • Wear Shaman's Outfit – This set provide players with a 6% EXP bonus to Summoning if you wear the whole thing. Individually, they provide you with a 1% buff each.
  • Do Familiarization, Distraction, and Diversion – These weekly activities allow players to earn triple the charms they gain for 40 minutes. Using these features will be a great boon if you are doing a heavy grinding session for these materials.
