Path of Exile 2 Build Planner Guide: How to Import Custom Builds

The Return of the Ancients expansion for Path of Exile 2 has introduced one of the most requested quality-of-life features in the franchise's history: the Build Planner. Instead of relying on third-party websites or alt-tabbing to follow a guide, you can now import specialized builds from the community directly into the game. If you want to know how the Build Planner works, here's a complete guide to help you import community builds seamlessly.

Why Use the Build Planner in PoE 2?

The Build Planner removes the guesswork and risk of error from character progression. By importing a community-built build file, the game overlays a comprehensive, guided framework directly onto your interface. Here's what the Build Planner does in the game.

  • Passive Skill Tree Guidance: The optimal sequence for investing your points is highlighted with a distinct blue line, ensuring you know exactly which nodes to take next.
  • Gemcutting Integration: When you select a build, the planner displays all the specific support skills you need to unlock for that setup.
  • Gear Targeting: Any specific gear requirements dictated by the build will be actively highlighted in your inventory.

How to Import a Build in PoE 2

Importing a build is quick, but it requires moving a local file into your game's directory before you activate the client. Here's what you need to do:

  • First, find a build you want to try from a content creator or the PoE community.
  • Download the build file to your device and make sure it has a .build Keep track of where this file is saved, since you'll need it for the next step.
  • Open your computer's file explorer and navigate to your Documents folder.
  • Open My Games, then open the Path of Exile 2 folder. Inside, you'll find a folder named Build Planner.
  • Copy and paste your downloaded .build file directly into this folder.
  • Launch Path of Exile 2 and log in to your character.
  • Press P to open your Passive Skill Tree.
  • Click the Build Planner option located in the top-left corner of the screen. You'll see a list of all available builds from your folder; select the one you just added.

Once activated, follow the blue line on your skill tree and watch for the highlighted gear in your inventory to execute the build perfectly.
