OSRS Grotesque Guardians Guide

OSRS Grotesque Guardians Guide

The Grotesque Guardians are a duo of Slayer bosses which means you can only access them when you're on a Gargoyle Slayer task or a Grotesque Guardians task. However, besides the task requirement you will also need to have received a Brittle key during your previous Gargoyle tasks and to have unlocked the roof where they are with it. You'll need level 75 Slayer to have a chance to receive Gargoyles as your task and to have unlocked the Like A Boss Ability to receive the grotesque guardians as a task.

Why You Should Kill Grotesque Guardians

The Grotesque Guardians is a boss that, unlike their weaker counterparts, the gargoyles, lack much of the loot. Except for items you can use high alchemy, they drop a few uniques. But because those uniques are mostly low-demand tank gear, they don’t cost much; they will barely cover your expenses. This means that if you’re looking to make a profit, you’re not killing the right boss, and you’re much better off just killing the Gargoyles since, with the Grotesque Guardians, you will most likely lose some GP on consumables rather than earn anything.

However, there’s one big reason why some people engage with this duo of bosses: the cute pet you can get from them. Also, you might find it worthwhile if you’re an ironman looking to obtain the gear they drop specifically. Noon, the pet you can get from the Guardians, can take either the form of Dusk or of Dawn, and you can choose the form you prefer by right-clicking and then choosing the metamorphosis option. However, getting the pet can be challenging since you have a 1 in 3k chance of getting it from each duo of bosses you kill.

Skills and Items

Even though you could start killing the bosses much earlier, you should only engage with them with the high efficiency of maxed or close to max combat stats, especially on the ranged part and best in slot gear for both ranged and melee since you will need both combat styles to defeat the duo. You can kill the duo with lower stats starting with your levels in their 70s, but you will not be efficient and might struggle with the fight.

For the ranged part of the fight, you should bring the Masori armor, but Armadyl will also work. You could also do the fight with Karil, but you won't be as efficient. The Toxic blowpipe with amethyst or dragon darts is the best in slot for this fight. For the head slot, you'll be wearing the imbued slayer helm. For the neck slot, bringing an amulet of blood fury is best to save a spot in your inventory and some consumables, as the Grotesque Guardians won't bring you profits anyway.

For the melee part, you should bring Torva or Bandos along a Scythe of Vitur, a Ghrazi Rapier, Blade of Saeldor, or Inquisitor’s Mace. However, you could get away with something as cheap as an Abyssal tentacle or whip if you don't care about maximum efficiency. Bring an Avernic defender, an imbued berserker ring, and Rada’s blessing 4 for the ammunition slot if using the Blowpipe.

Inventory

In your inventory, bring your switches, a Divine Super Combat and a Divine Range pot, your rune pouch, a few super restore potions, a rock hammer or another weapon capable of finishing off the Gargoyles, and food. If you have an Explorer’s ring 4, you can use it for high alch and bring the Arceuus spellbook for thrall spells to speed up the kills, especially if you’re trying to complete combat achievements.

The Fight

The fight has 4 phases, and the bosses will attack you with melee and ranged attacks. You can swap between protection prayers and hide under the melee boss to get him to dance around you, or you can keep the protect from melee prayer on at all times and tank the ranged attacks. However, if you get the melee boss to dance around you, you must pay extra attention when phase 1 ends. If you're under the boss during phase 2 or 4, he will use a trample attack on you and deal 30 to 40 damage.

In each phase of the fight, you will need to focus on one boss, and in the subsequent phase, you'll focus on the other one until they are both dead. You can start the fight by ringing the bell, and as soon as the bosses spawn, you need to focus on the flying one (Dawn). Once her HP is below 55 percent, swap to your melee gear to protect from melee and damage dusk. Also, remember to use Piety and Rigour according to the attack style you’re using in each phase to get even more DPS.

After phase 2 ends, the bosses will launch a lightning attack which you will have to dodge and prepare your range gear again to fight Dawn. When fighting Dawn both in phase 1 and phase 3, you should pay attention to dodge her stone ball attack to prevent taking damage and being rooted. Dodging this attack is simple and has a similar animation to the Marble Gargoyle special attack.

Once you kill Dawn, Dusk will absorb her, and you’ll fight a stronger version of him for the last phase. He will entrap you in an area; all you have to do to avoid the damage is walk out. He will switch between melee and ranged attacks, so you might want to swap your prayer accordingly.

Additional Tips

  • If you die during the fight, bring a nose peg with you on your way back since you must pass by the aberrant specters on your way to the roof.
When you learn the boss, bring more food than pots, so you’re sure to survive.
On phase three, click on the open flames, rather than outside it, to make sure your character starts moving in the right direction.
