What Types of Minecraft Accounts Are There?

First off, there are Minecraft Java Accounts. There are two variants of these. Java and Mojang. If a Minecraft account was purchased prior to December 1^st, 2020, then it is likely attached to a Mojang account.

New purchases, on the other hand, are linked to Microsoft accounts instead of Mojang. This means that users can use a Microsoft account to log into Minecraft. They also create their own Minecraft usernames through their Microsoft credentials.

If a Minecraft account was created prior to November 2012, then it’ll fall into one of these three categories: Mojang Migrated Account, Minecraft Premium (Legacy/Paid) Account, (Unpaid) Minecraft account.

For the first type (Mojang), it means the Minecraft account was moved to a Mojang Account, which was then used to log into Minecraft.

As for the second (Premium/Legacy) type of account, it means that the copy of Minecraft attached to it was purchased from the official source: minecraft.net. This also means that the account has complete access to the full game. It can also be moved to a Mojang account.

Lastly, there are unpaid Minecraft accounts. These accounts are the ones with usernames registered but whose owners didn’t purchase the game. Naturally, being a free account, the only mode available to these accounts is the demo mode. As of February 2015, these accounts were effectively deleted, which made all existing usernames available to the public (with the exception of accounts whose owners purchased a gift code).

Is Minecraft Still Worth Playing?

Definitely. Though the game is over a decade old (released in 2011 and available on paid Alpha in 2009), Minecraft still holds a massively dedicated fan base. With a monthly active user count of 166, million, there’s really no doubt that it is as relevant today as it was when it was first released. It simply shows no signs of stopping whatsoever—even in the face of fickle gaming trends.

Sure, there was a negative buzz surrounding the game and rumors were afloat that it was shutting down, but all those rumors were quickly put to rest. Perhaps the foremost reason it stays strong amidst the competition is the fact that Minecraft practically has no creative boundaries. Players have all the freedom in the world. All too often, this results in utterly magical things. People have created anything and everything from the Taj Mahal right down to Minas Tirith!
