Minecraft is giving players three new capes to celebrate the launch of Minecraft Dungeons 2: The Aurora Cape, the Twisted Cape, and the Hero Cape. These new cosmetics are available for both Java and Bedrock Edition, but you'll need to follow specific steps to unlock them. If you want to get your hands on these new capes, here's a complete guide to claiming and unlocking them.

How to Get the Aurora Cape (Twitch & TikTok Drops)

The Aurora Cape has a shimmering, rainbow-like gradient that catches the light in-game. Of the three capes, this is the easiest to redeem since you need to watch participating streams on Twitch or TikTok. Here's what you need to unlock the Aurora Cape.

Unlocking via Twitch

  • Watch 15 minutes of any Twitch Partner or Affiliate streaming Minecraft Dungeons 2.
  • Once you've watched for 15 minutes, check your Twitch Drops & Rewards Inventory page instead of waiting for a pop-up notification. Copy your unique 5x5 redemption code from there.
  • Head over to minecraft.net/redeem, sign in to the Microsoft account linked to your Minecraft profile, paste your code, and hit redeem.

Unlocking via TikTok

  • Open the TikTok mobile app (desktop streams don't track watch time) and watch 3 minutes of a creator streaming Minecraft Dungeons 2 with game rewards enabled.
  • Tap the reward icon on your mobile screen when the timer finishes, copy your code, and redeem it at minecraft.net/redeem.

The Aurora Cape event is available from September 29, 2026 through October 15, 2026. You need to redeem your code on the Minecraft website by October 31, 2026.

How to Get the Twisted Cape (Pre-Order Bonus)

The Twisted Cape is an exclusive cosmetic for players who pre-ordered Minecraft Dungeons 2. Here's how to unlock the cape if you pre-order the game.

  • Digital Pre-Orders: If you pre-ordered a digital copy of Minecraft Dungeons 2, launch the game while signed into the same Microsoft account you use for vanilla Minecraft. You'll receive an in-game notification confirming your reward.
  • Physical Pre-Orders: If you purchased a physical copy, locate the code inside the package and redeem it on your platform's store (Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo eShop) before opening the game.

How to Get the Hero Cape (Dungeons Player Reward)

The Hero Capes are an homage to players who played the first Minecraft Dungeons. Here's what you need to do.

  • Requirements: You must have played Minecraft Dungeons (the first game) at least once on your Microsoft account. You don't need to have finished the game or owned the Deluxe Edition, and playing via Xbox Game Pass counts.
  • How to Claim: Open up Minecraft Dungeons 2 while logged into that same Microsoft account. The game will recognize your play history and grant you the Hero Cape.
  • Troubleshooting: If the cape doesn't appear immediately, open Minecraft Dungeons 1, load into a mission for a minute, and then relaunch Minecraft Dungeons 2.

You can unlock the Hero Cape by December 31, 2026. So log into Minecraft Dungeons 2 and claim the cape.

How to Fix Minecraft Java Edition Sync Issues

Newly claimed capes often show up in Bedrock Edition right away but fail to appear in the Java Edition Launcher. If you're experiencing this bug, you can force a manual sync. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Launch Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
  2. Open the Dressing Room and navigate to the Capes tab.
  3. Equip your new cape and leave the game open for two or three minutes so the server records your change.
  4. Close Bedrock Edition and open the Minecraft Java Launcher.
  5. Go to the Skins tab, edit your active skin, and select your new cape under the cape selection menu.
