Marathon's Pinwheel Base in the Outpost map contains some of the best loot that can prepare you for Cryo Archives. Entering this massive place of interest, however, is not easy, as you will need to look for key items found scattered throughout Outpost. There is also an alternate way to enter, but it carries more risk and requires some platforming to reach. This guide will show you the different methods of opening the way to Pinwheel Base and getting some pinnacle loot on the way.
Pinwheel Base Keys
The Outpost map is filled with locked rooms that require three keys, which must be used on nearby terminals to unlock them. These keys are the green Access Code, orange Access Code, and Master Access Code. The green and orange Access Codes can be found as world loot in named places of interest, but you can also find them guaranteed inside Security Clearance boxes marked with the corresponding key color. Master Access Codes can also be dropped by UESC Commanders within Outpost.
Each terminal will show three colors, which correspond to the type of Access Codes you’ll need. You can find these entrances in Flight Control, Processing, and Dormitories. Once you unlock the barriers using the Access Codes, waves of UESC enemies will spawn, so be prepared for a fight.
Destroyed Wing Entrance
If searching for access codes isn't your style, the Destroyed Wing entrance can be used to enter Pinwheel Base. It won’t be easy, as you will need to destroy 4 generators on the interior and exterior walls of the Destroyed Wing before entering the central building. These generators are white cubes with a red light at the center.
Be aware that these generators appear at random locations on the wing, as you can even find them on the underside of the wing. Once all 4 generators are destroyed, the barriers will disappear, and you can now go inside Pinwheel Base.
Command Access Puzzle
After heading inside, you may notice a large door with two side panels for buttons. This door leads to the Command Access room and has a guaranteed Purple treasure item spawn. The two side panels will not be online, so you’ll have to power them up by pushing two buttons inside Pinwheel Base.
The first button can be found near the entrance to the Destroyed Wing on the first floor. It will be on a small column next to a white counter.
The second button is found at the end of the Drone Wing. Start from the center of the Pinwheel Base and hug the left wall of the wing. Keep going until you see a small interior office. You can find the button next to a shelf.
After pressing these two buttons, you can now interact with the side panels to open the way for Command Access.
