Marathon’s Outpost is home to the best loot (aside from Cryo Archive) thanks to the recent update that increased the quality of loot in this map. Entering the center of the map can be a challenge, as you’ll need to find colored keys to open the way and even loot the vault inside Pinwheel. With the changes to the Destroyerd Wing entrance, this guide will provide the updated method for entering the base without keys.
Wall Battery Method
Unlike the Security Breach method, which requires 2 Green and 1 Orange keycard, you can destroy the wall batteries scattered near the Destroyed Wing. Currently, all these batteries are found around the Orientation building. To drop the barriers in Destroyed Wing, you need to destroy 5 wall batteries to open the way.
Each wall battery will have a glowing red square in the middle, indicating it’s part of the Destroyed Wing barriers. Be careful, as while this does not announce your entrance to Pinwheel Base, other players will also be seeking this entrance.
While battery locations can be randomized, you can find these in the following set locations:
- 2 can be found on the walls of a cargo bay with an open roof hatch between Airfield and Orientation
- On the rooftop of Orientation, the black generators overlook the bridge between Orientation and Dormitories. Another can spawn on the same rooftop, on another black generator facing the Destroyed Wing.
- On the walls of the trench underneath the bridge between Flight Control and Orientation
- On the wall next to the garage area of Orientation.
- Next to a large truck on the road underneath Orientation.
- To the left of the NuCaloric vending machines behind the Orientation building.
Pinwheel Base Changes
The recent update has also shaken things up for certain parts of Pinwheel Base. These include:
- The Drone Wing and Destroyed Wing strongbox locations will no longer appear at the farthest end of their respective wings.
- The Pinnacle loot room now requires 3 Red keys instead of 2 Red and 1 Orange key.
