Marathon has a suite of guns to choose from for your incursions on Tau Ceti, with over 28 guns to choose from. There are over 6 ammo types: Light, Medium, Heavy, MIPS Volt Battery, and Volt Cells. This list shows all the guns available at launch for Marathon, along with what you can expect from each weapon.
Pistols
CE Tactical
This sidearm is a basic pistol that fires Medium rounds and is the Rook shell's default weapon. It is a standard semi-automatic weapon firing at 360 RPM and is effective at close range with a steep damage falloff at medium to long range.
V11 Volt
The V11 Volt is the only Volt Battery pistol in the game and is also semi-automatic, with a 600 RPM fire rate. Its unique alternate fire mode charges the weapon when the trigger is held down, firing a powerful energy projectile that deals more damage, like Halo’s plasma pistol.
Magnum MC
For Halo fans, this weapon will be familiar. The Magnum MC is the slowest-firing pistol in the game and uses Heavy ammo. This weapon deals serious damage per shot at medium range while having high recoil
SMGs
BRRT
Despite being an SMG, the BRRT does not fire in full auto, instead firing in 5-round bursts on trigger pull. However, it has one of the fastest fire rates in the game if you can tap the trigger after a burst. It can be a real bullet hose at close quarters while still having a decent recoil on medium ranges.
V22 Volt Thrower
The Volt Thrower SMG uses Volt Batteries and has the unique trait of slowing down its fire rate after sustained fire, making burst fire required to maintain its RPM. It also has a Legendary mod where it converts all shots into a slow-traveling projectile that embeds in a target. When all these projectiles converge on a single target, every embedded shot will explode, dealing massive damage.
Bully
This SMG is one of the hardest-hitting automatic weapons in the game (aside from the LMGs) as it uses Heavy ammo and has a slow rate of fire. This SMG can output serious damage even at medium range, but its high recoil makes it less viable in long range.
Shotguns
WSTR Combat Shotgun
Taking inspiration from the original Marathon’s shotgun, the WSTR is a double-barreled shotgun that deals lethal damage at close to point-blank ranges. It uses MIPS rounds and fires one barrel at a time, and requires reloading after two shots. However, it also has the steepest damage falloff, as it is ineffective at close range.
Misriah 2442 Shotgun
The Misriah 2442 shotgun is a semi-automatic shotgun with a bit more range than the WSTR shotgun. It will also come with a larger capacity.
Precision Rifles
Twin Tap HBR
This precision rifle come swith the unique trait of firing two shots per trigger pull, making it a deadly long-range option if you can keep on target. The Twin Tap uses medium ammo and has manageable recoil, making it a versatile option at medium range as well.
Repeater HPR
Unlike the Twin Tap, the Repeater uses Heavy ammo and has a slower rate of fire due to its lever-action mechanic. However, it deals even more damage per shot and can be used as a sniper if you can configure it with a long-range scope.
V66 Lookout
The Lookout, much like the V11 Volt, is an energy rifle that requires all shots to be charged upbefore firing, but also has extremely serious damage upon hitting.
B33 Volley
This gun is very similar to the Battle Rifle from Halo and the Pulse Rifle family from Destiny, firing at three-round bursts per shot. Like its cousins, the B33 Volley Gun is an easy choice for hitting targets from medium to long range with a controllable vertical recoil pattern.
Assault Rifles
Overrun AR
The Overrun AR is your standard 600-RPM medium-ammunition assault rifle with balanced stats across the board. It is a close-to-medium-range weapon with a high recoil pattern and is one of the more versatile weapons in Marathon.
M77 Assault
The M77 Assault has a higher damage profile and better accuracy at range in exchange for a slower rate of fire, making it a good choice for medium to longer ranged engagements. It uses Medium ammo and has a larger magazine than the Overrun.
Impact HAR
One of the most damaging assault rifles in the game, the Impact has the slowest fire rate and a massive recoil kick when firing. Since it uses Heavy ammo, the Impact can shred targets at most ranges, but it will require recoil mitigation from your end to maximize its effectiveness.
LMGs
Conquest
This weapon initially has a slow rate of fire that ramps up drastically as you hold down the trigger. The Conquest consumes Medium ammo and can usually be found on larger UESC enemies
Retaliator
The Retaliator, compared to the Conquest, has a uniform rate of fire but is mostly similar in performance. If you prefer consistency over potential DPS, the Retaliator can be more reliable in unexpected gunfights.
Demolition
The Demolition uses Heavy ammo, giving it the trait of a slow rate of fire in exchange for higher damage per shot.
Sniper Rifles
Longshot
The Longshot is a 3-round-capacity sniper rifle with semi-automatic operation. For Halo fans, this weapon will be similar to the old Sniper Rifle, with serious bodyshot damage and lethal headshot damage.
V99 Channel
A sniper rifle that consumes Volt Cells, the V99 Channel retains the charge-up mechanic from all other Volt weapons and can be difficult to use for beginners, but offers lethal damage when landing headshots. It is also a common drop from UESC Scouts, making it a decent weapon to pick up when scavenging.
Railguns
V00 Zeus RG
The Zeus railgun is one of the strongest charge-up weapons in the game, as it has a long charge time for even more damage on hit. It uses Volt Cells instead of batteries, which are more scarce.
