Sayu Build and Lore

Sayu

Name: Sayu

Vision: Anemo

Birthday: 19 October

Constellation: Nyctereutes Minor

Titles: Mujina Ninja, Shuumatsuban’s Resident Ninja

Sayu may be small and a slacker, but she can be a beneficial party member. As an Anemo user, she can produce the Anemo Swirl reaction with certain elements. Equipped with a Viridescent Venerer set, she can shred the elemental defenses of enemies every so often. She uses techniques from the Yoohoo Arts of ninjutsu, though she only really uses them to slack off and sleep.

Her Elemental Skill, Fuuin Dash, puts her into the Fuufuu Windwheel state, rolling about and ending the state with a Fuufuu Whirlwind Kick. Pressing the button to activate it makes her move a short distance and then use the kick. Holding the button lets her be in the Winwheel state for as long as 10 seconds. This also allows her to trigger Elemental Absorption, dealing additional damage with that element. It will only work on Hydro, Cryo, Pyro, and Electro elements. It doubles as a method of traveling distances fast.

Her Burst, Mujina Flurry, sends out a Muji-Muji Daruma that either heals allies or attacks enemies. It heals allies upon activation, after which the daruma acts depending on the situation. It will heal allies after set intervals if the character has less than 70% HP. Otherwise, it will attack enemies for those intervals. It heals allies past the 70% limit if there are no enemies.

Her first constellation upgrade lets the daruma heal and attack every interval, removing the HP limits. That's very helpful for the survival of the party.

Sayu Build Genshin Impact

Healer/Main DPS

Since Sayu's healing is based on her ATK stat, making her a DPS is not hard. However, it does cut a little of her healing powers if made into an actual DPS. Sacrifices have to be made, but this build can do an adequate job of both, just better in one aspect.

Possible Sets: Ocean-Hued Clam, Maiden Beloved (healing), or Gladiator's Finale (DPS) Combination of Ocean-Hued/Maiden and an ATK +18% set is a balanced option

Main Stats: ATK%, Phys DMG Bonus or ATK%, Crit Rate/DMG or ATK%

Substats: ATK, Crit, Energy Recharge

Support Healer/Sub-DPS

This build lets Sayu take a back seat in fighting, supporting allies instead of being on the front lines. It's a bit more versatile, with more options for artifact sets. The build also focuses on using her abilities more than her regular attacks, so keep that in mind.

Possible Sets: Viridescent Venerer, Noblesse Oblige, Emblem of Severed Fate

Main Stats: ATK%/Energy Recharge/Elemental Mastery, ATK%/Anemo DMG Bonus/EM, ATK%/Crit Rate or DMG/EM

Substats: ER, EM, Crit, ATK

That said, it's only worth building her EM if you're using VV or have C6 Sayu.

Budget Build: Instructor or The Exile

Weapons

Sayu doesn't exactly have a signature weapon, but players love giving her Wolf's Gravestone. Other possible weapons are:

  • Skyward Pride
  • Rainslasher
  • Katsuragikiri Nagamasa
  • Favonius Greatsword
  • Sacrificial Greatsword
  • Prototype Archaic
  • Luxurious Sea-Lord

Genshin Impact Sayu Lore (Backstory)

The Shuumatsuban is a ninja organization under the Yashiro Commission. True to their ninja ways, not many people outside the commission know about them. Even more so, Sayu is one of the organization's most elusive members.

Being trained in the Shuumatsuban since she was young(er), Sayu is a very skilled ninja. In fact, she's the last successor to the Yoohoo Art branch of ninjutsu. It's a style that relies on teasing the enemy, though Sayu learned only the escape and clone techniques. Despite all her skill in ninjutsu, she'd instead use them to slack off and sleep.

Though, in an outsider's eyes, that's not a very good use of skills, it's a matter of life and death for little Sayu. Since her peers all grew up in stature and she did not, she will do all she can to catch up. That's why she'd rather sleep than go on missions. Since sleeping is a factor of growth, she thought she needed more sleep.

Since then, the people around her have left her be unless she's needed for a mission. However, her skills in covering tracks and other ninjutsu arts delay seekers long enough for a substitute to be found. Sayu will try harder to hide if one cannot be found, so she doesn't get overwhelmed by the mission.

Only two people can find her consistently, no matter where and how she tries to hide. The first is the Guuji Yae, who can see through any illusion or art Sayu can use. It's good that Yae has no reason to appear or search for Sayu on behalf of the commission. Otherwise, Sayu will never have enough peace to sleep as soundly as she can.

The second is Kamisato Ayato, the current head of the Yashiro Commission and elder brother of Ayaka. Despite not having any ninja training, he's the one who can find Sayu with ease. In contrast, the Shuumatsuban organization has difficulty doing so. There's no explanation on how he could do this. However, it's likely to be some strong intuition, as he somehow realizes the Traveler is from another world without any logical reasoning.

Her ninjutsu style might not be too reliable in a battle, but it is undoubtedly flashy and eye-catching. As such, kids and citizens sometimes try to ask her to perform during festivals. If Yoimiya is the one trying to invite her, she still has a chance, but never when it's Lady Guuji Yae. As mentioned above, it's fortunate for Sayu that the Guuji doesn't have too many reasons for a personal appearance.

Her unusual attire was gifted to her by her teacher, her 'sensei.' It's made in her favorite colors and references a Mujina, not a tanuki! Since people confuse those two animals, Sayu will get seriously angry if she is referred to as a tanuki. She also now bears a grudge against the poor animals. Still, it's a good fact to remember if you ever want to get along with her.
