Name: Mona Megistus
Birthday: 31 August
Titles: Astral Reflection, Enigmatic Astrologer
Mona is one of the most popular characters that players want. For one thing, she's one of the two characters who can sprint across bodies of water. She's also one of the best support characters in the game. Her E skill, Mirror Reflection of Doom, makes a phantom appear. It damages enemies and makes them Wet. It taunts them as well, attracting them and keeping their attention. In this guide, I'll go over the most popular Mona Build in Genshin Impact.
Her Burst, Stellaris Phantasm, is a great crowd control skill. It traps enemies caught in it in bubbles, which increases the damage of the attack that pops it. Her skills tend toward support, but she can dish out damage with the right build. Her 2nd constellation upgrade helps very well with that. Then again, it takes some luck to be able to get that.
Mona Build Genshin Impact
If you want a supportive Mona, this is the set to use. The 4-set effects buffs the party with an ATK bonus when she uses her Burst. Also, it has a DMG Bonus effect, meaning you'll be piling on the damage buffs on your DPS. This is usually paired with the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers 3-star catalyst, which adds a 48% ATK increase at R5 to the next character you switch to.
Main Stats: Energy Recharge, ATK%/Hydro DMG Bonus%, Crit Rate/DMG
Substats: Energy Recharge, Crit DMG/Rate (focus on what isn't your headpiece's main stat), ATK
Note: for this, all that matters is ER since you'll want to keep up the Noblesse ATK buffs with Bursts. You can focus on damage or survivability for the other stats.
Heart of Depth
This set is for a DPS-oriented Mona. It focuses on dealing direct damage with the Auto Attack skills, which, as a catalyst user, is imbued with Hydro. You can use a 4-set or pair this with 2-set Gladiator's, Shimenawa, or Vermillion Hereafter. Severed Fate is also an option if you want a bit of supportiveness.
Main Stats: ATK%, Hydro DMG Bonus%, Crit Rate/DMG
Substats: Crit DMG/Rate, ATK, Energy Recharge
Emblem of Severed Fate
Severed Fate is the best way to make Mona's Burst spammable. The 4-set effect also makes her damage shoot through the roof with a 25% of ER damage bonus on her Burst*. Considering it, at level 10, has a multiplier of 796.32%, any additional bonus would push it over 8 times her attack! It's sure to boost her damage, but only with that ability. Still, that is a whopping amount of damage to any target.
(*If you have 150% ER, the bonus is 37.5%)
Main Stats: Energy Recharge, Hydro DMG Bonus%, Crit Rate/DMG
Substats: Energy Recharge, ATK, Crit Rate/DMG
Note: You can only have a maximum of 75% damage bonus from the 4-set effect, which means a 300% ER is the most you should get.
Budget Builds (4-star Sets)
The Exile is the best out of all of the 4-star sets, unless going for DPS. In that case, the Berserker set is best. Since this is a stopgap measure, you can use almost any stat, though Energy Recharge is still one of the best you can build on her.
It depends on how you want to use her. As a supporter, use the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (ATK buff) or Prototype Amber (healer). As a DPS, she could use all the usual DPS catalysts:
- The Widsith
- Skyward Atlas
- Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds
- Blackcliff Agate
- Solar Pearl
- Dodoco Tales
You should also balance your artifact stats with the weapon sub so you don't accidentally build more than 100% Crit Rate.
Mona Genshin Impact Lore (Backstory)
Mona is an astrologist who uses hydromancy in her readings. While not many people understand or appreciate her methods, everybody agrees that she's a great astrologist. Mona may be a bit too blunt in giving her predictions, though. This gives the people the impression that she's an unfeeling robot, though that's not the entire truth.
As she's not trained in financial matters, she's always toeing the poverty line. If she only manages her money well, she can live comfortably with what she earns. However, she could not resist getting the latest equipment and books about astrology. With these purchases coming from all over, that is, anywhere that's not Mond, shipping can be pretty expensive. That's where most of her earnings go, and the result is her current situation.
Mainly, her food budget is the first to take a hit. By cutting down on food expenses, she can just about cover all those expenses. That's why she likes salads so much. They're cheap and easy to make. It's also her specialty.
Financial woes aside, she's got another problem, this time with her master. After finding the object of her task (a journal Mona was asked to retrieve and not read), she accidentally read an entry. Having realized it was a log of her master's most embarrassing moments in youth, she decided to stay in Mondstadt.
Mona gets along with Klee, her master's rival's apprentice (and daughter). She hangs out with Klee and her adoptive big brother, Albedo, once in a while. She can justify it as 'hanging out with a fellow truth-seeker' as much as she wants, though she goes for a free meal.
Since her infrequent readings don't cover her spending, she had to get a more reliable job. An author for Fontaine's most popular newspaper, The Steambird, met her by pure chance. He had heard of Mona and so sought to contact her. The correspondence impressed him so much that he offered her a job to replace him since he wanted to retire. He connected her with the paper's editor-in-chief, and Mona's job as a column writer began.
At first, the editor-in-chief was worried about her academic writing. However, the public liked it enough, and that's how Mona became a writer and columnist for The Steambird. Still, it didn't exactly solve her problem of indulgent spending, so she's still hovering over total bankruptcy.
Maybe it's justice that lets Mona receive accurate and precise readings in her astrology. Something like a reward for all her hard work. Mora may never last in her hands, but due to her impulsive shopping, it may be a form of justice too. Still, as an astrologist, she never tries sugarcoating her predictions because her customers deserve the truth.
