In Brighter Shores, Mining is an all-important skill for fueling the Blacksmith profession, as all ores found in the Mine of Mantuban can be smelted into ingots for crafting weapons and armor. While you can level traditionally by extracting ores from different veins, there are other means of leveling up Mining. This guide will show the ins and outs of Mining and how you can level it up quickly.
How Mining Works
Unlike its predecessor OSRS, Brighter Shores consolidates all Miner resources to the Mine of Mantuban, meaning that this region will be your only source of ores and Miner XP. This makes things a lot easier since you no longer have to travel all over the world to level up this profession. Before you start mining, you’ll need to buy a Tier 1 Pickaxe in the Pans and Pickaxes shop for 36 Silver.
Since you have limited inventory space, you can deposit all the ores and stones you collect into their respective banks. The Ore Bank can be found in the Goblin Workshop and the Stone Bank in the Stonemasonry Room.
Mining XP Sources
Like all other Professions, you gain experience every time you mine an ore vein and extract its resources. This method rewards a fair amount of XP per vein and will generate ores for you to craft with later. While this is a quick method for getting XP, you’ll need to travel around corridors with Floor Tentacles and other hostile creatures to bank your ores and continue mining, which can take a considerable amount of time.
However, if you just want a large chunk of XP and a direct source of money, you can instead do minecart work, which can be done in the Mine Cart Cave. Doing minecart work requires completing more steps than just clicking on an ore vein, but you’ll gain a larger chunk of experience and roughly 2 Silver per loop. Note that doing mine cart will not give you any ores, so do this if you don’t plan to smelt ores into ingots.
Level 1-10 Guide
At base, you can start mining for 6 Coarse Flint, 3 located in the Abandoned Mining Cavern, and 3 in the Rat Infested Junction. This resource is by far your best starting option for leveling until you reach level 8, at which point you can unlock Coarse Andesite. You can find 3 nodes in the Andesite Site and 3 more in Stalagmite Nook.
Keep gathering Coarse Andesite until you reach level 10, which should unlock the extremely lucrative Minecart Work activity.
How To Do Minecart Work
First, you’ll need to be a level 10 Miner to start, which gives you access to the Flint Mine Cart. Clicking on a minecart will cause your character to automatically push it until you reach a junction. From there, you can pick a direction by clicking on the arrows that appear at the bottom of your HUD. Your first goal is to push a minecart toward the Flint miner (indicated by a Flint sign next to him) so he can deposit Flint into your cart. Once your cart is full, push it toward the northern end of the mineshaft to close the loop and earn some XP and silver.
This method takes less time than traveling between ore veins and the bank, only taking one minute per minecart loop for an easy 672 XP and 1 Silver. This method will be your primary means of leveling until you reach level 55, at which point you’ll unlock the Iron Mine Cart Work.
Level 20-30 Guide
Aside from doing more Flint Mine Cart runs, you can also unlock a passive activity. If you have a Knowledge point available, spend it on the Buff Limestone passive activity for some easy AFK farming. Each Buff Limestone resource requires one Crate to gather passively and each Crate costs 20 Copper. You can buy 100 crates for 2 Silver, which should be a good investment for farming around 400 XP while logged out.
Once you reach level 27, Limonite Iron Ore will be your best active resource node to farm as each one gives you around 106 XP. You can find 8 nodes at the Dilapidated Mining Cavern and 2 at the Bridge Cavern.
At level 30, you can unlock a Venture for Rhombic Brimstone, which requires Explosives to gather. Completing this daily task will net you 2k+ experience. Ventures are always worth taking a few minutes to complete as they compound into your hourly XP gains.
