In Black Myth: Wukong, your Transformations make up half of your offensive tool kit, with the other being your Spells. Each Transformation has its own special movesets for light and heavy attacks, as well as other utilities that make them especially effective for certain boss fights. Transformations last as long as you have enough stamina or until you deplete its second health bar. Since some of the Transformations aren’t as apparent as the early ones, it can be hard to find them all in one normal playthrough. This guide will show you how you can get all the Transformations in Black Myth: Wukong.
Table of Contents
Golden Cicada Form
This is the first Transformation you unlock, but it isn’t a combat-oriented form. To unlock the Cicada form, simply progress through the main path in Chapter 1 until you’re in the “Outside the Forest” area. This is primarily used to sneak past enemies and locate secret areas without drawing any aggro.
Spirit Forms
This Transformation belongs to a set of skills that have a single attack and are not bound to your 4 Transformation slots. Instead, these are triggered by pressing the Left and Right Triggers together to unleash its attack. The Wandering Wight is the earliest Spirit Form you can unlock, as you can find the aforementioned boss in Chapter 1. You’ll need to learn how to contain Spirits first before you can use it. There are many other bosses in the game that leave behind a Spirit that you can then equip on your Spirit slot. Spirit Forms will require a Qi resource that you must gain through combat before you can use them
Red Tide Form
This form is one of your first combat-related forms and can be found early on in Chapter 1. You can unlock this form by locating and defeating the Chief Yaoguai, Guangzhi. You can find him in the same “Outside the Forest” area where you first get the Golden Cicada Form. You may also find the Wandering Wight boss in the center of this zone. From the Shrine, head left and follow the path until you see a bridge. Cross the bridge and go past the gates until you reach a wolf yaoguai with a flaming glaive.
This form gives you early access to Fire damage and is best used against bosses weak to that element. However, do not use it on the Black Bear Guai boss fight as this will cause it to enrage immediately.
It's light attack. Moon Dance unleashes a flurry of strikes that builds up the Fire effect, while the heavy attack Moon Chase is a damaging forward dash.
Azure Dust Form
The Rock Guai form gives you the best defense with its rock-solid shell and immunity to all status effects. To get this form, you’ll need to progress to Chapter 2 until you reach the Squall Hideout shrine. Head towards the cavernous area and keep going until you find a rock with glowing blue crystals on it. Hit it to start the Mother of Stones boss fight. Once you defeat it, you’ll gain the Stone Essence key item. Return to the Squall Hideout shrine and head in the opposite direction to find the Man in Stone NPC and give him the Stone Essence item. Once you give him the item, go ahead and attack him to trigger an optional boss fight. Defeat the Man in Stone, and you’ll earn the Azure Dust Form.
Take note that he’ll also become a shopkeeper after you defeat him, so return to him after resting to buy some materials from him.
Azure Dust’s light attack, Earth Splitter, is a three-hit overhead combo that inflicts good stagger. Its heavy attack, Mountain Splitter, is a charge attack that knocks back enemies caught in your path.
Ebon Flow Form
Once you reach Chapter 3, there’s a side quest available from Chen Loong when you meet him. He’ll ask you to look for a pill from the NPC Xu Dog. He can be found in Sandgate Village in the Chapter 2 zone. Speak to Xu Dog about Chen Loong and he’ll give you the pill for the quest. Return to Chen Loong and he’ll give you the scroll that leads to the Painted Realm, where you can find the Yin Tiger boss that drops this Transformation.
Its light attack, Onslaught Blade, is a slow but heavy hitting combo that will accumulate Focus. Meanwhile, the heavy attack, Rift Cleaver, is a charged attack that does more damage the more Focus points you have. The spell Windwalker will convert all your current Focus points into extra agility for your current form.
Umbral Abyss Form
The Umbral Abyss form is a closer fit to the Destined One’s playstyle but with an inclination towards Frost buildup and immunity. You can unlock this form by defeating the Macaque Chief in Chapter 3. The Macaque Chief’s blade has a longer reach compared to the Destined One’s staff, making it easy to keep your distance while slashing away at enemies. Each attack accumulates the Frost effect, allowing you to eventually freeze enemies in place. Its moveset works similarly to the Red Tide attack patterns, which should be familiar to you.
Umbral Abyss has access to two spells that build up Frost. Cold Heart is a buff that empowers your blade attacks and improves your dodge. Cold Resolution is a forward dash that positions you in the perfect place to deal massive damage. This transformation is key against certain enemies where you’d prefer to create some distance between yourself and the boss.
Hoarfrost Form
Also located in Chapter 3 is the Hoarfrost form. To locate the boss for this Transformation, start at the New Thunderclap Temple shrine and take the path to the right. The boss is close to a shrine near the temple’s plaza.
It’s light attack, Tentacle Flick, is a multi-hit combo that can build up Focus points rapidly. The Tentacle Sweep heavy attack is a long-ranged sweep attack that can hit enemies from further away. This form can cast the Ice Sheet spell which expels an icy mist that inflicts the Frost status effect on enemies caught within the mist.
Violet Hail Form
The Violet Hail form requires completing a secret questline that can be easily missed in Chapter 4. To start, you’ll need to reach the Pool of Shattered Jade. Start at the Upper Hollow shrine and head to the area with spider sacs. Look down until you see a ledge and drop down. Once you reach the Middle Hollow, go to the cliffside area which should lead you to the pool. Then, fight the Venom Daoist boss.
Once you’ve defeated the boss, continue through the main path in Chapter 4 until you reach the Temple of Yellow Flowers and the Court of Illumination shrine. From the shrine, turn around and look for a tunnel. Travel through it until you locate an open area. Look to your left and take the downward sloping path until you reach the cavern. You’ll fight the Venom Daoist again, but it’ll have new moves.
Defeat him again and he’ll point to a drawing in the cavern. Travel through it and you’ll end up in the Purple Cloud Mountain zone. Look for the NPC Daoist Mi to start the questline for this Transformation. Complete his questline and he’ll turn hostile. Defeat him and speak to the Snake Lady you met to unlock the Violet Hail form.
This moveset’s light attack is a simple slash that builds Focus. Meanwhile, its heavy attack, Torment, sacrifices your HP to surround your blade with larva, which attach themselves on an enemy hit by your light attack. The larva can then be detonated like sticky bombs with the Hive Mind spell, which also restores any lost health.
Gold Lining Form
This form has an even longer secret requirement that must be completed before facing the boss that drops it. Start by defeating the King of Flowing Sand and Second Rat Prince boss fight in Sandgate Village of Chapter 2. After defeating them in any order, go left of the arena and into the Valley of Despair. Should you defeat the King last, another boss will spawn with the First Rat Prince. Lure the boss’s attacks to hit the wall with small statues then defeat it as normal. If it does not spawn, you can instead hit the wall with the Wandering Wight form or the Azure Dust form. Once the crack on the wall is made, head through it and open the chest in the secret room to get the Loong Scales.
With the Loong Scales, you can go through the secret waterfall caves that are present in Chapter 1. Stand in front of the waterfalls and interact with them while having the Loong Scale in your inventory to fight the secret Loong bosses.
Beat the secret bosses, then go to the Relief of the Fallen Loong shrine in Chapter 4. Now you can fight the Yellow Loong to unlock this Form.
