If you're starting in AION 2, one of the most iconic choices you'll face is deciding between the Elyos and Asmodian factions. Both sides make their return from the original game, bringing their rivalry into a new era. If you're worried about making the wrong choice and ruining your endgame experience, don't worry. Your faction choice is less about combat advantage and more about aesthetics, story, and who you're playing with. Here's everything you need to know about the Elyos and Asmodian factions in AION 2.
What are Factions in AION 2?
In AION 2, your faction determines which side of Atreia you call home: the Elyos or the Asmodians. This choice shapes your server placement, starting region, main story perspective, and PvP allegiance. Since both sides share the same core classes and progression systems, your decision is more about which side of the conflict you want to experience.
How to Join a Faction (And Can You Switch?)
Joining a faction is tied to your server selection at the start of the game. Picking an Elyos or Asmodian server automatically aligns your character with that respective side, bypassing any initiation quests. You can't change an existing character's faction later. Even premium Server Transfers restrict you to your current faction's server. So if you want to experience the other faction, you need to create a brand-new character.
Elyos vs Asmodians: Differences Between Factions in AION 2
If you're a solo player or your group is undecided, your choice comes down to the lore, environmental aesthetics, and cosmetics vibe you prefer. Neither side of Atreia has a combat advantage. Your playthrough's visual tone changes depending on your allegiance. To help you out, here's a breakdown of the differences between the two factions.

What Stays the Same in Each Faction?
Unlike the original AION, choosing your faction won't restrict your character's physical appearance or combat capabilities. To help you better understand, here are some aspects that are the same in each faction.
- No Combat Advantages: Both factions offer the same eight classes. A Gladiator plays the same whether they're Elyos or Asmodian, meaning you don't need to pick a specific faction to excel in PvE or PvP. Your build, equipment, and skill will dictate your strength.
- Character Customization: Asmodians no longer have exclusive physical features like claws or talon-like feet. Both factions share the same body types, faces, and detailed appearance options.
- PvP Matchmaking: Even though you're on separate servers, Elyos and Asmodian servers are frequently matched against one another for intense PvP content like the Abyss. Server pairings can shift over time, so you'll always have a steady supply of rival players to battle, no matter which server you choose.
