The Currency Exchange became a vast QoL improvement in Path of Exile when Settlers of Kalguur emerged. This system allowed players to easily trade currencies with one another at a much faster and more comfortable rate. However, some restrictions on the exchange might be helping others with price flipping as they take advantage of these hard limits. If you’re seeing trades for buying up Rogue Markers in exchange for Divine Orbs on the Currency Exchange, don’t do it.
It’s Not a Great Bargain
While it’s undoubtedly convenient and a good tool most of the time, the Currency Exchange may not be an excellent place to trade Divine Orbs for Rogue Markers. The main reason would be that you won’t get the equivalent rates for Fair Market Exchange, and you’d be better off buying Rogue Markers with any other currency. The reason for this lies in the restrictions placed by the devs on the listing ratio.
Developers have placed an onerous restriction between currencies, wherein the highest listing ratio is 1:65000. While this doesn’t seem like a big deal, it becomes problematic when trading a costly item. Here is the math to help you understand:
- Divine Orbs to Chaos Orbs: 1:136 (on average)
- Chaos Orbs to Rogue Markers: 1:800 (fluctuates from time to time)
- Divine Orbs to Rogue Markers: 1:65000
This is the standard average listing every day in the Currency Exchange. We can now compute how much a Divine Orb should cost if we use the information above to calculate the Fair-Trade Value. Here is the best explanation we can offer:
- If we trade 136 Chaos Orbs for Rogue Markers, we’ll get approximately 108,800 Rogue Markers. 136 Chaos Orbs are equivalent to one Divine Orb, so one Div should be comparable to 108,800 markers.
- However, when we try to buy Rogue Markers directly with Divine Orbs; we can only buy 65,000 with one Div due to the ratio restriction. We lose out on at least 40,000 Rogue Markers.
- If I trade two Divination Orbs for 272 Chaos Orbs, then trade the latter for Rogue Markers, we’ll get around 217,600. Then, if we list Rogue Markers for 65000:1 for Divine Orbs, we can get an additional Divine for three.
Buying Rogue Markers with two Divine Orbs means losing a third of the Fair-Trade value. However, if you do this vice-verse, you gain three Divs for the initial price of two. To do this, buy Chaos Orbs equivalent to two Divine Orbs, buy Rogue Markers equivalent to the product of the previous exchange, and then trade the Rogue Markers for Divines. This market flipping becomes a great way to earn some Div if you want to take advantage of this limit.
However, if you want to make the most out of your Divine Orbs when buying Rogue Markers, we highly suggest that you trade them for Chaos Orbs first or any currency of lower value. This ensures that your exchanges won’t hit the hard limit on the ratio so that you can get the total value of your offers.
How to Properly Trade Divines for Rogue Markers
The problem with doing too many transactions with the Currency Exchange is that you’ll get bottlenecked by the amount of Kingsmarch gold you need to spend. Essentially, trading Divine Orbs to Chaos Orbs to Rogue Markers will take up so much gold, that you'll have to farm for several hours to cover the cost. Fortunately, the old-school way of exchanging currencies is still an option.
Instead of using the Currency Exchange, you can use the PoE Trade website and post your offer there. If someone is interested, they’ll whisper to you directly, and you can trade with them in person, which means you don’t need to go through the Currency Exchange to get the total value of your Divine Orb. On the other hand, you can also use the global chat to ask if someone is willing to swap their markers for your Div.
What Do You Need Rogue Markers For
Markers are generally used for many transactions. You can usually get them as drops or by doing Heist runs. Many players use this currency to buy the best modified Heists and Grand Heists available from the merchants in the area, which can yield profitable loot. 200,000 Rogue Markers can sustain Exiles for a very long time, so they can spend as much as they want to buy new maps from vendors.
