Settlers of Kalguur turned out to be one of the best League mechanics that Path of Exile has ever had, as it introduced many cool features that players are happy to see. Everyone has enjoyed managing their Kingsmarch settlements and sending various workers on their errands. However, Sasan the Bandit King is one new NPC that eludes our Exiles. If you’ve been on the hunt for this boss but need some help, look no further than this guide.

Who is Sasan the Bandit King
Sasan, the latest enemy NPC added during the Settlers of Kalguur league, is an antagonist to Kingsmarch. While he doesn't attack the settlement directly, his actions impede your workers' progress, particularly the Map Runners. Sasan will occasionally kidnap your Atlas runners and hold them for ransom.
When this happens, you only have three options on what to do. You can pay off their ransom, fight Sansa to free the runners, or abandon your workers to their fate. Of the three, the best option is to fight Sansa because he can drop one of the best Unique swords in the game. However, he’s a very challenging boss with a considerable health pool, so be prepared. Here are the Bandit King's stats:
- Level 83
- Damage Type: Fire and Physical
- Resistances:
- 50% Fire
- 50% Cold
- 50% Lightning
- 30% Chaos
- Abilities
- Hail of Arrows
- Circle of Flame
Sasan is a very durable boss due to his multiple high resistances, which are a big problem for most Exiles. Almost everyone runs some Elemental Damage to their builds to augment their damage. He only has two abilities, both AoE attacks and both which can deal significant damage and DoTs.
Where Can I Find Sasan the Bandit King
Unfortunately, you cannot directly find Sasan unless he chooses to interact with you. He has a low chance of making an appearance, and it only happens once he kidnaps your workers. If he does hold your men for ransom, he’ll most likely appear in the Abandoned Port zone. Fortunately, you can increase your chances of spawning by doing the league mechanic.
How to Find Sasan the Bandit King
The only way to spawn Sasan is to have him kidnap your Atlas Runners. You can increase the chances of this happening by continuously sending your men to do mapping. This way still has a meager percentage of having him spawn though, so be sure to make your workers do the Atlas as often as possible. You can only hope that one of them will get kidnapped, so, you can finally force an interaction. Unfortunately, this is the only known way to spawn this boss.
How to Unlock the Kingsmarch Map Device
You must unlock the Kalguuran or Kingsmarch Map Device to send out Atlas runners. You can do this by leveling up your Town Level to Rank 7, which will require the following resources:
- 5760 Gold
- 225 Verisium Ore
- 125 Pumpkin
- 250 Orgourd
In addition to unlocking the Map Device, you also reach 60 Max Town Populations and increase the max job rank to 7.
What Happens if You Choose to Pay the Ransom or Abandon the Workers
Aside from fighting Sasan, you can pay his Ransom or Abandon your men. The price for releasing your workers is relatively high, and he’ll ask you for a hefty amount of gold. You get no rewards for doing this other than getting your runners back. On the other hand, if you choose to Abandon them, you essentially release them from your services. There are no drawbacks to this other than losing potentially valuable workers.
It’s unclear what happens if you lose to Sasan if you choose to fight him because most of those who encounter him always win despite the challenge. You can fight him multiple times if Atlas portals are open.
What are the Rewards for Beating Sasan the Bandit King
If you choose to fight Sasan, you can get tons of cool rewards like runes and gold. He mainly drops the former, but there is a chance for him to give you one of the best two-handed uniques available in PoE 3.25. Here are all the rewards for defeating the Bandit King:
- Sun Rune (Level 1)
- Time Rune (Level 81)
- Power Rune (Level 83)
- Bounty Rune (Level 67)

- War Rune (Level 43)
- River Rune (Level 52)
