OSRS Yama Boss Strategy Guide

OSRS Yama Boss Strategy Guide

Old School RuneScape has rolled out its new raid boss: Yama. You'll find this boss in the Chasm of Fire dungeon, and he'll drop some powerful items like the Oathplate armor, the soulflame horn, and a direct upgrade to the Death Charge. It's good to keep in mind that Yama is an endgame boss, which means you'll need some preparation and gold before taking him on. Here’s how you can beat Yama quickly and earn some powerful rewards.

Best In Slot Gear and Items

Since Yama counts as a Demon, all Demonbane weapons will be very effective. Therefore, Emberlight and the Purging staff are considered the best weapons for this fight. Another effective Demonbane weapon you can consider is the Burning Claws, but it's important to consider the other two first. The best armor for this fight is the Ancestral set if you're running Magic DPS and the Torva set if you’re going melee DPS.

For magic, the Dark Demonbane and Mark of Darkness combo provides the most consistent DPS against Yama.

Finally, bring 1 to 3 Sanfew serums or any anti-poison potion, as Yama can inflict poison damage. Fill the rest of your inventory with the best food.

Yama Boss Fight Mechanics

Yama can be soloed, but bringing a duo player with you is highly recommended. When you enter the arena, there'll be two different glyphs on the ground, some colored orange and some colored black. You or your duo can step on these glyphs to survive specific lethal attacks.

Phase 1 Mechanics

In Phase 1, Yama will have a couple of notable attacks. One of them is signaled by either purple smoke or a ring of flames that will rise up from the ground under him. If Yama emits purple smoke, the magic DPS player must step on the black glyph, while the ring of flames means they'll need to step on the orange glyph. Yama will alternate these attacks, so he'll go either Black, Orange, Black Orange OR Orange, Black, Orange, Black, depending on his first attack.

Besides that, he'll also unleash a wall of black or orange flames that close in on the arena. Like the first mechanic, anyone can step on the glyph with the matching color to avoid taking damage from this attack.

Intermediary Phase

Once you reach around 60% of his health, Yama will teleport you and your duo to separate instances with the Judge of Yama. The encounter with the Judge involves an Agility course consisting of stepping stones over lava. The Judge of Yama will start throwing slow-moving fireballs at you, which you can avoid by hopping on a different stepping stone. When you reach the Judge, attack him by alternating between melee and magic since he has both melee and magic Protection up.

Phase 2 Mechanics

Yama will now have a new mechanic where he will utter the words “Veni estella infernus” to the player he’s currently aggroed towards. When he says this, the player closest to an orange glyph must stand on it to avoid getting one-shot.

As for his standard attacks, those are telegraphed by either flames coming down on your character, which can be avoided with a Protect from Magic, or shadows falling down for Protection against Ranged.

Intermediary Phase 2

After bursting down Yama to 30% health, he'll teleport you again to the Judge of Yama with the exact same mechanics as last time. Use this time to heal up and charge up your special attacks.

Phase 3 Mechanics

Yama will start summoning void flares in the arena that detonate after 10 seconds. When they detonate, they'll heal Yama while heavily damaging both players. The player using the Purging staff should use its special attack on these void flares to destroy them instantly.

Meanwhile, a line of three fireballs will come down towards you. When this happens, run away perpendicular to the line of fireballs, as the two outer fireballs will explode in an hourglass pattern.
