How to Tame Animals

Taming animals in Hytale is very easy, but it does require some setup to do it properly. Before you start taming animals, it's recommended to have a relatively large farm with multiple crops to tame as many animals as possible. A Level 2 Farmers Workbench would also be extremely beneficial, as it will be your main workbench for all farming-related needs.

Another great tool to have before farming would be the Feed Bag. This attracts any tameable animals within a certain radius to your location and effectively prevents them from running away. To actually tame an animal, you need to have the correct food item to feed it.

Afterwards, you just hold it in your hand, then press your interact key to feed and tame it. Finally, the Capture Crate lets you carry animals by making it an item that takes up a slot in your inventory. This is useful for transporting animals from far-off locations back to your base.

The Poop Loop

Animals in Hytale passively generate manure, which can be used to fertilize your farm. Fertilizer helps speed up plant growth, letting you harvest your crops more often and directly resulting in more Essence of Life. So, by taming more animals, you can expand your farm and grow even more crops, both systems feeding into each other's growth.

Chicken Coop and Enclosures

Currently, only the chickens have a specific enclosure. For chickens to passively produce eggs, you must first craft and place the Chicken Coop. For other animals, providing a safe enclosure is essential, as the world of Hytale is full of dangerous predators. To do this, you must make sure their enclosures are:

  • 2 Blocks Tall
  • Built on Solid Floor (Wood, Stone, Tilled Soil)
  • Proper Lighting to prevent nighttime mobs from spawning inside
  • Fenced and Gated
