Casting magic in Hytale requires having a staff or spellbook, instead of spells being learned by your character. This means you will have to craft your own staves or find one as loot in dungeons. If you want an early start to becoming a caster in Hytale, this guide will provide you with all the crafting recipes you need to sling some spells.
Arcanist Workbench
This workbench is important as it allows you to craft magic–based items in the first place.m First, you must upgrade your Builder's Workbench to Tier 2 by spending 30 Copper Ingot, 20 Iron Ingot, and 20 Linen Scraps. This unlocks the recipe for the Arcanist Workbench. To make one, you'll need the following materials:
- 10x Thorium Ingots
- 30x Linen Scraps
- 20x Essence of the Void

As for the rest of the magical items list, you must restore 100 Memories in the Forgotten Temple to unlock a new recipe. Currently, only the Teleporter is available to craft on its tab.
How Does Magic Work?
For staves, these use a charge system that stores Essences of their elemental type. For example, the Fire Staff requires Essence of Fire to cast its spell, while the Ice Staff needs Essence of Ice to work. If the staff runs out of Essence, you will need to gather more in order to keep casting.
