Helldivers 2 Mechs and Stratagems might be coming soon

Helldivers 2 mechs

Now that the server woes have straightened out, Arrowhead Studios announced that they’ll be shifting their focus onto cooler things, including—most likely—playable mechs. These mobile mayhems may be closer to joining the fray than we realize since a video showing one in action was leaked on Reddit.

To be fair, there’s no question that we’ll be getting mechs in Helldivers 2—they were already present in the previous game. Moreover, the “Report for Duty” trailer that just dropped this February featured a mech prominently, paired with a message “coming soon after launch.” Hopefully these new tools will help us defend Super Earth and liberate the citizens from the Terminids and Automatons.

Helldivers 2 Mech Suit Leaked

Currently, players can only use weapons and Stratagems to combat enemies. While some are incredibly OP, like the Eagle 500 KG Bomb and Railgun, it’s still not enough—especially when planning evacuation missions. Just this week, a leaked footage shared to the Helldivers official subreddit shows a player using a mech for combat. In this brief video, the player jumps in and out of the mech. Then, they jumped back into the pilot seat and rained bullets on enemies.

The users quickly pointed out that modders and hackers were the likely reason for making this possible. Having a cheater in a lobby full of randoms isn’t uncommon these days. Even if Helldivers 2 is a PvE game, other players will still find a way to have a leg up over the others by any means necessary.

Meanwhile, others were hyped for the mech integration, with a few players considering what models would be included in future updates. We already know that mechs are coming to the game at some point after the launch, as per the Ready for Duty trailer. However, the mech shown on Reddit isn’t highlighted in the trailer. The mech seen in the trailer was the Walker 44, while the video on Reddit showcased the Exo 48. This means that Arrowhead Studios plans to add more than one Exo Walker to Helldivers 2.

The person who posted the video on Helldivers’ subreddit also commented that he spawned in multiple types of mechs that he tested out prior to the recording. He stated that the mechs seem modular, with several types of weaponry attached.

Any New Stratagems?

Besides new mechs, we might be getting new Stratagems soon. A Redditor user named u/stodal posted on the Gaming Leaks and Rumours several interesting details he found in the game’s files. A file titled “DropoffCombatWalker” suggests that we’ll soon be able to call down our very own mech suit to make battling Terminids and Automatons easier. Besides that, a file named “DropoffLav” has players speculating that vehicles might be the next main addition to Helldivers 2. If so, those may be exclusively reserved for larger maps.

New Weapons for Helldivers 2

Besides the possibility of getting mechs soon, the original poster about the leak in Helldivers’ subreddit chimed in about having new weapons. He said he had access to new weapons like an energy-based RPG, a meteorite that hits like a nuke, a group of Helldivers you can call to support you (which we’re assuming are NPCs), and more.

We May See the Illuminate in Helldivers 2 Soon

The datamine doesn’t just reveal upcoming Stratagems and mechs—it also hints at the newest faction: the Illuminate. We know the Illuminate will eventually take up arms against Super Earth, but be prepared—they’re not your typical enemies. In the original Helldivers, the Illuminate are highly sophisticated creatures. Their civilization has endured for hundreds of thousands of years. In the first Helldivers game, their species have taken the first step towards producing mass weapons of destruction on a large scale. As such, they’re a faction that Super Earth can’t ignore.

The Illuminate has several enemy types, which are the following:

  • Adept
  • Ghoul
  • Obelisk Fire
  • Summoner
  • Outcast
  • Pathfinder
  • Illusionist

The most worrying one is arguably the Illusionist, which has the ability called Force Choke.

A Bright Future is Ahead of Helldivers 2

While it is exciting to daydream about what’s coming to Helldivers 2, none of the leaked content is guaranteed to appear in the game. At the very least, the references and videos offer an insight into what the developers have in the works. Fans are hyped by the possibilities in these leaks, generating plenty of speculations and buzz around the community.

As we wait for any official announcements from Arrowhead, the datamined files and video leaks provide the best look at what awaits in the future. The developers have confirmed that they have a lengthy roadmap in mind for its live-service shooter. Still, given its popularity, many elements must be reworked to accommodate the game’s astounding success.

Helldivers 2 has risen to the ranks as one of the most popular games of 2024 so far. Sure, the year is just starting, but the game has overtaken Starfield and Destiny 2, snagging the title of having the biggest Steam launch from PlayStation or Xbox. Despite many players struggling to get into the servers and timing out between matches, Helldivers 2 has more than 350,000 players online almost every day. To combat these issues, the devs have cranked out several patch updates to eliminate waiting times and increase server capacity.

In the meantime, you can still enjoy the content that’s already in the game, including both versions of its Warbonds (aka battle pass) and ship upgrades.
