Sports. The best way to show the world your best moves, the continuous honing of skills, the birth of geniuses, and a spectacle of people enjoying life through their shared love for the sport. Football (soccer) is no exception. In fact, it might be the perfect example of the beauty of sports encapsulating the tensions, fan engagement, outside politics and controversies, and most of all, the “beautiful game” itself.
EA FC 24 emulates this euphoric feeling by incorporating and refining elements that made its predecessor FIFA series an iconic video game. One of which is what we’re going to focus on in this article: the player celebrations. Specifically, the Griddy Dance that was created by NFL players Ja’Marr Chase and Allen Davis.
What is the Griddy Dance?
The origin of the Griddy Dance comes from another type of football. The NFL (National Football League) has its own take on the football terminology by adapting rugby and soccer as its foundation. While the term “soccer” is widely used in America , in other countries, it’s “football”. For all intents and purposes, the real game will be called “soccer” throughout this article.
Back to the Griddy Dance, it was invented by Allen Davis who, as a high school football player, was inspired by the Nae Nae dance and made his own. This resulted in the first incarnation of the Griddy Dance. Davis then uploaded the dance on YouTube and gained traction. Upon teaching the dance to his friend and high school football teammate Ja’Marr Chase, Chase taught the dance to Justin Jefferson who now has given the dance its first variation: an “okay” hand sign placed on the eyes like a pair of glasses.
And this is where the Griddy got famous.
In soccer, the dance move is a common celebration and is included in the EA FC series. Real-world soccer players have used the dance to taunt the opposing team. And what a taunt it is.
How to Do the Griddy
The Griddy is not that complicated. All you have to do is press some button combinations and you’re off. But the catch is that you must score your goals first. Practice scoring goals then do the dance. After all, it wouldn’t make sense to strut your stuff without any stuff to strut about.
After getting the feel of scoring goals the next step is to know the button combinations for the Griddy. Here are the button combinations for available platforms.
PC |
PlayStation |
Xbox |
Hold D + Press Right and then Left |
Hold R2 + Tap up 2x on the Right Analog Stick |
Hold RT + Tap up 2x on the Right Analog Stick |
To know if you entered it correctly, the player would stare blankly into space and do the eye goggles gesture with their hands.
Note: You can skip this celebration by pressing R1+L1 (PlayStation) or RB+LB (Xbox). Also handy if you entered the wrong button combination.
