EA FC 27 Ultimate Team brings back Icons and Heroes with an updated structure that makes the two card types feel more distinct. Icons represent players who reached world-class status or left a major mark on football history, while Heroes celebrate players remembered for iconic club, league, or career moments.
FC 27 also introduces Hall of FUT, a new category for players who became legendary within Ultimate Team itself. This gives squad builders more high-profile options beyond traditional Icons and Heroes.
What Are Icons in EA FC 27?
Icons are special Ultimate Team Player Items based on some of football's greatest players.
In FC 27, Base Icons have been rebalanced so they start at a minimum of 88 OVR. Their Attributes and PlayStyles have also been refreshed so they remain more competitive from the beginning of the Ultimate Team cycle.
Icons are especially useful because they can make squad building easier while also providing elite Player Items at multiple positions.
What Are Heroes in EA FC 27?
Heroes represent players remembered for major moments, standout club or league spells, or a lasting impact on supporters.
Unlike Icons, Heroes are generally tied more closely to specific leagues or parts of their playing career, giving them a different identity when building chemistry.
Hero items can also receive stronger campaign versions throughout the season, meaning their usefulness can change as new promotions arrive.
What Is Hall of FUT in EA FC 27?
Hall of FUT is a new Player Item category introduced in FC 27. Instead of focusing only on real-world football legacy, Hall of FUT celebrates players who became especially memorable within FIFA and Ultimate Team history.
The inaugural Hall of FUT class includes players such as:

- Marouane Fellaini
- Loïc Rémy
- Eljero Elia
- Giovani dos Santos
Base Hall of FUT Player Items can be earned through the Token Store, while special Campaign versions are expected to appear in Packs later in the FC 27 cycle.
You can also use Hall of FUT cards in Evolutions when they meet the relevant requirements.
How to Get Icons and Heroes in EA FC 27
There are several ways to obtain Icons, Heroes, and related special items in FC 27 Ultimate Team.
Transfer Market
The most direct method is purchasing a Player Item from the Transfer Market using FC Coins.
This lets you choose exactly which Icon or Hero you get, but elite cards can be extremely expensive, especially early in the game cycle.
Packs
Icons, Heroes, and eligible special versions can appear in certain Store Packs and Reward Packs.
Some high-rated special items can also appear as Holographic versions in FC 27. These have the same gameplay attributes but feature a rarer visual treatment.
Squad Building Challenges
Icon and Hero SBCs can provide another route to specific players or special Player Picks throughout the season.
These can require large amounts of high-rated fodder, so compare the total SBC cost against the Transfer Market price before committing your Club resources.
Live Events
FC 27 includes rotating Live Events linked to current Seasons and Campaigns. These can include:

Each event can have different squad restrictions and rewards, so Icons or Heroes may sometimes appear as rewards, objectives, or useful squad-building options depending on the event.
Season Rewards and Premium Pass
FC 27 continues to use seasonal progression across multiple modes. Ultimate Team rewards can include Packs, Player Picks, special Player Items, and other content.
Some editions of FC 27 also include Premium Pass access for certain Seasons, which provides an additional reward track.
Pre-Order and Edition Rewards
Eligible FC 27 Ultimate Edition and Ultimate Plus Edition players received an 85+ International Icon Pack at launch.

Which FC 27 Icons Are Best?
The best Icon depends heavily on your squad, budget, and preferred style of play.
Attackers with elite Pace, Shooting, Dribbling, Skill Moves, or strong attacking PlayStyles generally attract the highest demand, while fast center-backs and complete midfielders tend to remain valuable for longer.
However, Base Icons now start at a higher overall level in FC 27, so more of them are viable early in the Ultimate Team cycle than in previous editions.
Which FC 27 Heroes Are Best?
Hero value often comes from a mix of in-game attributes and chemistry utility.
Attackers with high Pace and responsive Dribbling are typically useful in competitive modes, while midfield Heroes can provide strong league links alongside balanced attributes.
Defensive Heroes can also offer excellent value if they combine enough Pace with strong Defending, Physicality, and defensive PlayStyles.
Because new Hero campaign versions will appear throughout the year, there is no permanent list of the "best" Heroes. A Base Hero that is strong at launch may eventually be replaced by a more powerful Campaign version.
Are Icons Better Than Heroes in FC 27?
Not automatically.
Icons generally have stronger historical prestige and more flexible squad-building value, while Heroes can provide excellent league-based chemistry and sometimes offer better coin value.
The more useful card depends on its Attributes, PlayStyles, position, price, and how well it fits the rest of your squad.
Should You Buy Icons and Heroes Early?
Buying a premium Icon or Hero early can make a major difference to your squad, but prices can be volatile.
Supply increases as more Packs are opened, new SBCs arrive, and Campaign cards enter Ultimate Team. This means expensive Base versions can lose value quickly.
If your budget is limited, it may be more efficient to strengthen several positions with cheaper meta cards than to spend most of your FC Coins on one Icon or Hero.
Can Icons and Heroes Be Used in Evolutions?
Some Icons, Heroes, and Hall of FUT items can be eligible for Evolutions if they satisfy that Evolution's requirements.
Always check the OVR, position, Pace, PlayStyles, and other eligibility caps before committing a special card to an Evolution.
Because new Evolutions are added throughout the season, older Icons or Heroes that fall behind the power curve can sometimes become useful again if they qualify for the right upgrade.
