In a sandbox game like ArcheAge, weapons are important tools. You need to at least be able to defend yourself whether you're a merchant or a craftsman. That said, picking the right weapon is essential for your continued survival in Erenor.

One-Handed

One-handed weapons are balanced between speed and damage. You can choose to wear a shield in the off-hand or wield two weapons. These usually come in the forms of swords, daggers, spears, and smaller axes.

Two-Handed

Two-handed weapons require both arms to use. They deal greater damage than one-handed weapons but have a slower attack rate. Greatswords, greataxes, longspears, and similar weapons belong to this category.

Ranged Weapons

Currently, bows are the only ranged weapons available in the game. It has a fast attack rate and you can deal damage at a distance. However, its individual arrow damage can be lower than the melee weapons.

Musical Instruments

Flutes, lutes, and drums are considered weapons. They're special in that you don't use them for attacking, but restoring health (lutes) and mana (flutes). Drums can buff others that dance along with its beat.

ArcheAge Apex: Be On Top

Since ArcheAge is an MMO, there are some ways to get geared. There's the old-fashioned method (hunting for equipment), and the modern mode (purchasing stuff with in-game currency). Also, there are ways to gather Apex without having to do the usual farming.

First is by choosing “Commerce” as a profession. An exclusive Merchant Certificate is a requirement, which cost at least 50 silver and is accessible from the Crafting Merchant. With a Merchant Certificate, start gathering the necessary resources to craft the Trade Pack. To check for the required resources, open the “Commerce” crafting menu. Each trade pack requires a different set of resources, so pay close attention. Other than the specific resources for that trade pack, Labor Points must be spent (similar to mana), except instead of skills, it allows crafting. For trade packs, you'll need 60 Labor Points.

After having the previously mentioned requirements, look for a special workbench since it's the only place where crafting a trade pack happens. The easiest method in locating one is by opening the map and ticking on “Infrastructure – Specialty Workbench” from the map filter.

Once you finish crafting the trade pack, take it to another province and sell it to a particular NPC. However, your character's movement speed will decrease upon carrying it, which can be problematic because ranged enemies can easily target you. If you go for a trade run, it's wise to drop the trade pack for a short time and take out the enemies. Keep in mind that dropping the trade pack makes it vulnerable to get picked up by other players. Besides, you can pick up the trade packs of other players.

The Trading House: Get ArcheAge Apex

Another common option is to buy and sell via the Auction House. Before selling items in it, players must have either Patron Status or purchase an auction license from the marketplace. Once either of the two is in possession, you can begin buying and selling your way to prosperity, especially the cheap, standard, and in-demand items.

In fact, purchase as many Apex possible because once you already have control of a particular item's supply in the Auction House, you'll be able to control the price of that item. On the other hand, that doesn't mean you're going to do price inflation (keep bumping up the price regardless of the law of supply and demand) of what you're selling. When other players sell the same item at a lower price, there's a medium to high probability that they will purchase from players who provide reasonable rates. You can buy Archeage Apex, in-game things that give players 1250 credits upon consumption, which you can use to buy various Archeage equipment and items.
