WoW Cataclysm Classic: Firelands Raid Loot

You’ve entered the Firelands raid and conquered it. You’ve quelled the fury of Ragnaros and saved Azeroth from a blazing end. Now, what reward do you get for your heroic deeds? Do you gain personal glory and forever remembered honor, your name engraved in history?

No–not unless your guild was one of the first to defeat Ragnaros. You get loot, that’s what! In this article, all of the loot drops from the Firelands will be covered, with sources and attributes mentioned for your convenience. To avoid repetition, this article starts with basic information about the loot, including common variances. Since all love our tier sets, their information comes next. For those less interested in upgraded armor and weapons and more intrigued by crafting recipes, that section comes after, followed by the much-anticipated gear loot tables. The gear section starts off strong with information about Crystallized Firestone vendor loot and then goes into the loot per boss. From trash mobs to Ragnaros, may your gains be plentiful!

Item Level Info

Before you don that new, shiny gear you just looted, you should understand how item level drops work for this raid in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic. Firelands has two difficulties, Normal and Heroic, and two modes, 10-player and 25-player. Regardless of how many players accompany you, the same item level of loot will drop. Large groups of 25 players will have more items dropped per boss, though. The only variable in your item level drops will come from the difficulty and the boss. Ragnaros, as the final boss, drops better gear.

On Normal difficulty, 378 item level gear will drop, with Ragnaros dropping 384 item level gear. If you challenge Heroic difficulty, 391 item level gear will drop, with Ragnaros dropping 397 item level gear.

Tier Sets

Oh, speaking of armor and weapons, tier pieces should be covered. The following table will show you how to acquire your tier sets/tier tokens. You can do your exchanges with Faldren Tillsdale in Stormwind (79.1, 69.4) if you play Alliance. If you play Horde, you’ll be meeting with Jamus’Vaz in Orgrimmar (48.7, 71.7).

Please note the differences between Normal and Heroic for the sake of everyone’s sanity. It’s very disappointing to realize you were on the wrong difficulty…

Profession Recipes

Trash mobs drop more than just trash–they also can supply you with recipes for Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, and Tailoring! Below are the recipes you may discover while slaying packs of annoying mobs between bosses. Who knows, their loot may be the most exciting!

Trash mobs drop more than just trash, in fact, they drop even more than just recipes for Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, and Tailoring–they also drop gear that can be quite valuable! The gear listed below can drop from most any trash mob you slay in the Firelands instance. If you don’t need what you loot, they are BoE, so someone else in your raid may want it. You could also donate to the guild bank or sell the gear on the auction house!

Firestone Vendor Gear

Tackling the bosses of the Firelands victoriously may grant you Crystallized Firestones. This currency can be used to upgrade lower item level gear, whether it be an eligible Valor item or a BoE raid drop, to a better quality. The vendor for this gear is Lurah Wrathvine in Mount Hyjal (47.6, 77.6), directly outside of the raid’s entrance.

If you decide to use your Crystallized Firestones rather than sell them for 5 gold each, the following gear is eligible for upgrade from item level 378 to 391!

Most of these pieces of gear bind when picked up, so you cannot list them on the auction house, sadly. Lord Rhyolith

Spiteful of the Titans and determined to wipe your raid group, this boss will drop valuable gear for those capable of defeating him. Again, much of this gear is bind on pickup, so you won’t be able to turn much in profit if you don’t need the items you get. A notable exception is Volcanospike. Some of the loot drops repeat from Beth’tilac, be aware!

Alysrazor

Spawned from a volcano just to bother your group with inescapable roleplay scenes, this boss is at least useful for the loot. Once more, you won’t be able to turn a profit on the gear you don’t need due to it being BoP. There’s also recycled loot, which can either be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your mindset. You can either be excited for multiple chances at a drop or bothered by the repetitiveness. Your choice!

Note that this boss can drop the Flametalon of Alysrazor mount, which is quite rare even in the retail game, World of Warcraft: The War Within. Try your luck!

Shannox

With two hellhounds and a helluvalot of enrage mechanics, this boss can give some underprepared groups a tough time–and those who are properly prepared, some nice loot! Notice that this loot table also has some repeating gear and is BoP. Sadly, there is no chance to get a mount from this boss…but hey, at least you can get upgraded armor and weapons to tackle other foes that may have a mount drop!

Baleroc

The gatekeeper can keep you from the last two bosses if not slain, yes, but you also keep yourself from some epic loot if you fail to kill him. This boss also has repeats and a trend of BoP loot, but worry not–the best loot comes soon, after you slay the last two challenging foes of the Firelands! Do note, however, our best off hand item is currently the Molten Scream drop from Baleroc…so maybe the gatekeeper has worth alone!

Majordomo Staghelm

A respectable Archdruid gone and lost to blazing flames, Majordomo Staghelm is the last boss standing between you and Ragnaros. While Ragnaros may drop the best loot from this raid, Majordomo Staghelm certainly has some nice finds as well. Remember that these items are almost entirely Bind on Pickup with some repeated drops as well, mostly in the weapons category. You’re almost there!

• Cloth wrist piece with bonuses including increased stamina, intellect, critical strike, and haste. Unlike most drops, this piece is reported to be Bind on Equip!

Ragnaros

Ragnaros, the Firelord, the foe with spoils we’ve all been waiting for upon his defeat, will not disappoint your group! Unless your raid team gets frustrated after attempt number infinity…remember, this boss is quite the challenge. As such, the loot you can find on Normal difficulty is bumped up to 384 item level, and on Heroic you’ll get items as high as 397 item level! This is for all items other than the repeat weapons, which retain the lower item level. The loot from Ragnaros is a testimony to your individual strength and contributions to the fight. As such, it is BoP. 

Ragnaros also drops the Smoldering Egg of Millagazor, allowing you to summon a new mount. This mount, the Pureblood Fire Hawk, is a flying mount that will accompany you on your further glorious adventures. The drop rate is 100% on Heroic, but it can still drop on Normal. Now, less talking, more looting!

Concluding Thoughts

With two mounts, unique trinkets, powerful weapons, and strong armor, the loot from the Firelands raid is well worth the effort. That isn’t even mentioning the upgrade system using Crystallized Firestones or the tier sets you can obtain! While some of the bosses, such as Ragnaros or Shannox, are challenging…bosses such as Alysrazor or Majordomo Staghelm can be outright annoying after too many tries. Keep in mind the loot that awaits you, remember that your raid team is composed of humans (even when they pull too soon), and just think of flying through Stormwind or Orgimmar on the Flametalon of Alysrazor—you’ll be able to get through it!
