Where Winds Meet gives you the option to either play in Solo Mode or get the MMO experience with Online mode, but both modes have different progression paths. You can customize your experience to either feel like a single-player RPG or a classic MMO with a shared open world. You can even choose to change the control scheme between ARPG controls and MMO controls. Here are all the major differences in each game mode.
Solo Mode Features
The biggest feature in Solo Mode is the Breakthrough leveling mechanic. Every 10 levels, you are unable to level up further, and all XP you gain by this point is stored. To increase the cap, you must undergo a Breakthrough challenge, where you must fight 3 waves of enemies. Succeeding in the challenge not only increases the level cap but also your Energy cap. You also gain some Jade, coins, and higher-tier equipment as a reward.
Solo Mode will also prevent other players from appearing in the open world, but will still allow you to invite your friends for Co-op mode.
📌Note: Unless you're a healer, any injuries or illnesses you take cannot be removed until the full duration.
Online Mode Features
Compared to Solo Mode, this mode has all players appear in the open world for you to see and interact with. Healers will be available to remove any status effects. However, you will be unable to progress the Main Story, and there will be little to no combat in this mode besides sparring with other players. Leveling in this mode is also a lot slower.
📌Note: Social features like guilds, public events, PvP, raiding, and other new game modes are readily available in Online Mode.
Switching Game Modes
You can freely switch between Solo Mode and Online Mode without losing any progress in either mode. Progress you make in Online Mode will carry over to Solo Mode and vice versa, and changing modes is near instantaneous.
