How To Play as a Vanguard

As mentioned, the Vanguard is an agile class in the battlefield, due to its special device/weapon, the Grapnel Launcher. When fully mastered you’ll be able to zip around the map defeating enemies left and right.

To use the Vanguard’s Grapnel Launcher, you’ll need to learn the areas of the map where you can grapple to, as map awareness for this build is key. This will help you go in and out of the battle easily. When used in Operations the Grapnel Launcher will only grab onto certain surfaces. In Eternal War the Grapnel Launcher can grab onto any surface as long as it’s in range. So be aware of the differences when using the Grapnel Launcher in the two game modes.

With being an offensive Class, Vanguards can use the Grapnel Launcher to grab on the enemy and head towards them, especially if the enemies are calling for reinforcements. To use the Grapnel Launcher on the enemy you’ll need to first aim at them and then launch your Space Marine across to hit them with a melee attack. If you see an enemy calling for reinforcements, you can use the Grapnel Launcher to cancel the call. To find enemies calling for reinforcements you’ll see a skull icon on top of their head. When you see this icon, quickly target them and cancel their call.

Your Grapnel Launcher is a versatile tool as a Vanguard, but you’ll need to use its Charges wisely. The Grapnel Launcher does recharge but try to use it sparingly and mainly for life and death situations. Always avoid horde confrontations, as they can overwhelm you, especially if you’re surrounded. It’s better to target more isolated enemies with this device. Evading is also an important skill to use with the Vanguard Class, especially when in hand-to-hand combat. Evade the enemy using the Grapnel Launcher and to increase your attack speed. Use this speed to take advantage of encounters with enemy forces.
