In the OSRS Hardcore Worlds economy, survival is all that counts. One unsafe death permanently wipes your character and everything you're carrying, so safe skilling and market flipping are the most reliable ways to build wealth.
Here's how to build a cash stack from nothing, plus the mistakes that will cost you everything.
Phase 1: The First 60 Minutes
Before you can make millions, you need seed money and a safety net. Stay out of combat entirely during this phase.
- Keep your Escape Crystal on you. You start in Death's Office with one free crystal. Hold onto it at all times: if you disconnect, it automatically teleports you to safety and clears poison and burn effects.
- Claim the Stronghold of Security 10k. Work your way through the Stronghold of Security to collect your starting 10,000 GP. If you die and reset, there's a 3-day real-time cooldown before a new character can claim it again.
- Buy backup crystals. Spend that 10,000 GP on extra Escape Crystals from Death right away. Never leave a safe zone without one.
Phase 2: Generating Safe Capital
Once you've got basic survival gear and crystals, your goal is zero-risk income. The Hardcore economy is completely separate from the main game and has no boosted drop rates, so skilling is essential to supply the server with items dead players have lost.
- Rush Hunter for Chinchompas. PvMers badly need Chinchompas for fast, safe ranged training and bossing, so put everything into Hunter and sell what you catch. YouTuber Link'sOcarina proved this by rushing Rank 1 Hunter on day one and cornering the early Chinchompa market.
- Process raw materials at the Blast Furnace. If you'd rather go the industrial route, players constantly need processed ores for early gear upgrades. Creator pip became wealthy in the first 24 hours using nothing but safe, high-volume ore processing.
Phase 3: Scaling Up With Grand Exchange Flipping
When skilling has built your stack to 1M to 3M GP, shift your focus to the Grand Exchange. Flipping scales infinitely and keeps your character safe in a bank.
- Target consumables. Place buy orders on high-volume survival supplies: food, potions, runes, and teleport tabs.
- Exploit wide margins. Supplies vanish from the game every time a player dies, so buyers are desperate and will pay hefty premiums. Buy low from skillers and sell high to PvMers, the way YouTuber Mintmadcow did when he flipped items on a fresh account and made 100M GP in just 8 hours.
What to Avoid at All Costs
- Early bossing and PvM. Fight Caves, Inferno, and Nightmare Zone all count as unsafe deaths. If you die there, your gold and items are deleted, and your character is kicked off the server. Let other players take the risk, and sell them the supplies to do it.
- "All-in" investments. A fresh economy has thin order books, which means low liquidity. Never put your whole stack into one niche item: if the few players who can afford it die and quit, your investment is worthless. Spread your GP across basic supplies everyone needs.
