Killing Ludovici is a pivotal decision that you must make after kidnapping him in Chapter 5 of Mafia: The Old Country. While it does seem you’ll be given a choice at this crossroads, you’ll be shoehorned into ending the life of the businessman. This guide will show you why you’re only option is to kill Ludovici.
Kill or Spare Ludovici
Killing Ludovici is the only option for players when Tino orders you to kill him. Shooting him advances the story to its next stage. However, opting to lower your gun after aiming at Ludovici will prompt Tino to kill you while also commenting that you’re useless. We can also assume that the consigliere will also shoot Ludovici after killing you, so the only real option here is that you do the deed yourself. You’ll respawn after you fail the mission so that you can make the decision again.
While killing Ludovici is the only path forward, lowering your gun and not shooting him will give you an achievement. After Tino tells you to kill the businessman, aim at Ludovici and lower your gun, which will then prompt Tino to shoot you. Afterward, you should get the Man of Honor achievement. If you don’t get it during this scenario, you can also obtain it when you’re presented with the option to kill or Spare Costa.
Who is Ludovici
Ludovici is a local businessman who owns a large mansion and a small army of guards. In Chapter 5, you’re sent to kidnap Ludovici from his home, which you can complete either by eliminating all the guards or sneakily getting past them. The latter method will give you the Fantasma achievement.
📌 Note: The Fantasma trophy is awarded even if you kill a guard after getting spotted. The only requirement for this spot is to prevent any gunfight and raise the alarm.
