Costa becomes one of your targets in Chapter 13 during the Capiregime mission. Shooting or staying your hand is one of the potential crossroad choices that you can make in Mafia: The Old Country. However, whether you choose to shoot Matteo Costa or not, the game will ultimately decide on his fate. This guide will show gamers why choosing between killing and sparing Costa won’t have any lasting impact in the game.
Kill or Spare Costa
In the Capiregime mission, you’ll eventually corner Costa at the doors of the church. After a brief dialogue, Tino and Cesare will urge you to shoot him down as he pleads for his life. While the game doesn’t explicitly state it, you can opt to shoot Costa or avoid doing anything.
If you opt to kill Costa, a small cutscene will play with your party engaging in a small dialogue with Father Ciccone. However, you can also choose not to shoot Costa by either not raising your gun or lowering it once you aim. Unfortunately, this won’t save him because Tino will still ask someone to kill your target, which will prompt Cesare to shoot him in your stead.
🎯 Note: Choosing not to shoot Costa will give you the Man of Honor achievement if you haven’t obtained it during previous missions.
Who is Costa
Costa is the final member of the rival Spadaro family. In Capiregime, you’re objective revolves around eliminating all mafioso under the Spadaro organization until only Costa is left. During the mission, one of your targets is Dino Mazzone, who is your second objective. Killing him without alerting his men will give you the Silent Hunter achievement. You can also get the Not So Fast achievement in this mission if you kill Domizia Caccini (your third objective) before he reaches the Salt Flats during the car chase.
