How to Get One-Hit Kills and Parries in Mafia: The Old Country (Knife Combat Guide)

Knife Duels are common occurrences in Mafia: The Old Country, so you have to familiarize yourself with the various available knives and different combat mechanics. This guide will help players execute One-Hit Kills and parries using various close combat tools.

Different Knife Types in Mafia: The Old Country

It’s essential to understand the three different types of knives in Mafia: The Old Country, as they excel in various situations. While you can use all three in any scenario, selecting the most appropriate one for the encounter will make your fights much easier. Here are all the different knives in Mafia: The Old Country:

  • Scannaturi: Can be thrown for ranged takedowns.
  • Rasolu: Allows one-hit kills during active combat.
  • Stiletto: Highest Durability, ideal for extended fights.

Scannaturi and Rasolu are the best knives for stealth scenarios because the former can facilitate long-ranged takedowns, and the latter is ideal for assassinations. In duels, your options are the Rasolu and Stilleto, but the latter is better due to how long you can use it in extended fights.

How to Do One-Hit Kills (Rasolu)

The easiest way to execute one-hit kills is by using a Rasolu knife. They are more suitable for executions either through stealth kills or active combat. You'll be given a prompt when you’re allowed to do a Melee Takedown, so the key is to create a situation wherein you can execute your opponents.

Stealth Takedowns

  • Make sure you remain undetected while approaching an enemy.
  • You’ll be given a prompt to do a knife kill or a choke execution when you’re close enough (Circle for PlayStation, B-button for Xbox, and F Key for PC)

Active Combat Takedowns

  • Depending on your knife, you can do a Melee Takedown by charging near an enemy. However, if a prompt doesn’t appear, then you may execute a combo until the prompt pops up. Using your fists for the combo may allow you to do an execution afterward (Circle for PlayStation, B-button for Xbox, and F Key for PC)

📌 Note: One-hit Kills or Takedowns consume Durability, so make sure to bring whetstones to repair your knife.

How to Parry and Dodge

The key to Parrying is recognizing which attacks you can parry and which ones you need to dodge. Any attacks from enemies that have red indicators are called Strikes, which cannot be parried. You always have to dodge these attacks to avoid damage. It’s also ideal to use the best knife suited for prolonged duels: the Stiletto.

Any normal attack can be parried to create a safe counter window. Try listening to sound cues and attack animations, as you need to time the action perfectly. However, some attacks might not have noticeable sound signals or telegraphs, so it’s better to study an opponent’s attacks first until you get used to their rhythm.

📖 Summary: You need to use a Rasolu to execute One-Hit Kills and use a Stiletto for prolonged battles to do multiple parries. Melee Takedowns are either done by stealthily approaching enemies or executing melee combos until the execution prompt appears. Parries can only be performed on non-strike attacks and must be executed immediately before an attack hits.
