Your Digimon can only have one Personality Skill at a time, so you have to choose from the two available options. However, you can still change your chosen ability via dialogue with your Digimon.

How to Change Personality Types in Digimon Story: Time Stranger

If you don’t like the current Category and Personality that your Digimon possesses, then you can still change them by engaging with them in a dialogue. When exploring areas, you’ll get a prompt from your active companion roughly every five minutes. Your Digimon will ask you a question, and your response will determine if they stay or move to a different personality. Each answer will gravitate your companion to a specific Value. Refer to the following image:

While Personalities are categorized, they also fall under different Values. These Values don’t have any effect other than helping you change the Personality of your Digimon. Whenever you engage in a Dialogue with your companion, the answers will clue you in if they are Affection, Understanding, Heart, or Companionship responses. Choosing one basically moves your Digimon’s Personality to a specific direction. For example:

  • If you want to shift from Overprotective to Brave, then you’ll have to engage in three conversations with your Digimon. In those three dialogues, you have to choose two Heart Value responses and one Affection Value response. If you look at the table, the movement from Overprotective Personality will be right, right, and up, which will land you on the Brave Personality.

This system also affects the DigiTraining method, allowing for increased stats and Personalities. Each training item shifts your Digimon to a specific Value and boosts a particular Attribute. Using this method takes up to 30 minutes but allows you to gravitate to two Values at the same time.

You can also use this method to change your Digimon’s Personality Skill. Whenever you change your Digimon’s Personality, they will also ask you if you want to change the current ability. However, you can also decline this offer, which means your companion can have a Personality Skill that is different from its current Category.
