Evolutions are one of the main ways to upgrade players in EA FC 27 Ultimate Team. Instead of immediately replacing a lower-rated player, you can use Evolutions to improve their attributes, add Roles or PlayStyles, and turn cards that fit your squad into much stronger options.
FC 27 also gives players more control over Evolutions than previous games. New Evolution Pathways can offer different upgrade choices, while the Evolution Chain Preview lets you see whether completing one Evo could make your player eligible for another. This makes planning an Evo chain much easier before committing your card.
What Are Evolutions in EA FC 27?
Evolutions let you permanently upgrade eligible Ultimate Team Player Items. Each Evolution has its own requirements, which can include a player's overall rating, position, Pace, number of PlayStyles, or other attributes.
Standard Evolutions usually require you to complete objectives before claiming each upgrade level. Some Evolutions are free, while others may require EA FC 27 coins or FC Points to unlock.
Be careful when choosing a card. Once a tradeable Player Item is submitted to a standard Evolution, it becomes untradeable while the Evolution is applied.
What's New With Evolutions in EA FC 27?
FC 27 introduces several important changes to the Evolution system.
Evolution Pathways
Some Evolutions now give you a choice between different upgrade paths rather than forcing every player through the same set of improvements.
For example, one pathway might focus more heavily on attacking attributes and Roles, while another may improve defensive attributes. Your choice is locked in once you complete the relevant Evolution level and claim its reward.
Evolution Chain Preview
You can now preview multiple Evolutions before committing to a chain. After previewing the first Evolution, FC 27 checks the resulting card and shows which other available Evolutions that upgraded player could qualify for.
This is especially useful because an Evolution can improve a player enough to qualify for another Evo, but it can also push an attribute or Overall Rating above the maximum allowed by another Evolution.
Repeatable Evolutions
Some FC 27 Evolutions are repeatable. This means you can use the same Evolution multiple times rather than being limited to one player.
Depending on its requirements, you may even be able to put the same player through a repeatable Evolution again if the upgraded card still qualifies. Paid repeatable Evolutions require you to pay the entry cost each time.
Training Camp Evolutions
Training Camp Evolutions provide passive upgrades instead of requiring the usual match objectives. When you send a player to Training Camp, that card becomes temporarily unavailable. Once the training period finishes, you can claim the upgrade and use the card again.
FC 27 has expanded Training Camp Evolutions to provide more ways to improve lower-rated cards early in their development.

How to Evo Chain in EA FC 27
Evo Chaining means putting the same Player Item through multiple compatible Evolutions. Instead of focusing only on the immediate upgrade, plan a sequence that gradually improves the card while keeping it eligible for later Evolutions.
FC 27 makes this easier with Evolution Chain Preview. You can preview the upgraded version of your player and then see which currently available Evolutions that version could enter next.
1. Start With the Player's Weakest Meta Attributes
Don't choose an Evolution only because it gives the largest OVR increase. Look at what actually limits the player's effectiveness in their position.
For attackers, Pace, finishing, agility, dribbling, Skill Moves, Weak Foot, and useful attacking PlayStyles can matter more than simply raising OVR. Midfielders benefit from combinations of Pace, passing, reactions, ball control, stamina, and defensive ability, while defenders generally need enough Pace alongside strong defensive and physical attributes.
2. Watch Attribute Caps Carefully
This is one of the most important parts of Evo chaining. Many Evolutions have maximum requirements rather than minimum requirements.
If your next Evo allows a maximum of 83 Pace, for example, using an earlier Evolution that pushes your player to 84 Pace could make that card permanently ineligible for the chain you planned.
The same applies to OVR, positions, and PlayStyles. Before completing your first Evolution, preview the full chain whenever possible.
3. Don't Chase OVR Alone
An 80-rated Evo with the right attributes, Roles, and PlayStyles can be more useful in-game than a higher-rated card with an awkward stat distribution.
This is especially important early in FC 27, when Evolutions are generally designed to improve lower-rated cards rather than immediately creating 90+ OVR players.
4. Use Pathways Based on the Player's Role
When an Evolution offers multiple Pathways, choose the upgrade that fits how you actually intend to use the player.
For example, a central midfielder used as a defensive screen benefits from different upgrades than one expected to make late runs into the box. Likewise, an attacking fullback has different requirements from a stay-back defender.
5. Leave Room for Future Evolutions
The strongest-looking upgrade today is not necessarily the best long-term choice. EA has confirmed that impactful Evolutions will continue to arrive throughout FC 27, although at a more measured pace than before.
A card sitting slightly below an OVR, Pace or PlayStyle cap may therefore have greater Evo-chain potential than one that has already hit several high attributes.
Best EA FC 27 Evo Chaining Strategy
Unlike FC 26, there isn't one universal early-game chain that you should use on every card. FC 27's Pathways and tighter positional and attribute restrictions make player-specific planning more important.
A strong general strategy is:
- Start with a low-rated card with strong foundations: Look for players with useful body types, Pace, Roles, Skill Moves, Weak Foot or existing PlayStyles that are difficult to add later.
- Use the first Evo to fix weaknesses: Improve the player's weakest important attributes instead of simply choosing the biggest OVR increase.
- Preview the next Evo: Use FC 27's Chain Preview before committing so you don't accidentally exceed an eligibility cap.
- Prioritize useful Roles and PlayStyles: Attribute improvements matter, but Roles and PlayStyles can substantially change how a player performs.
- Keep future eligibility in mind: A slightly weaker card today may become a much better Evo project when another Evolution arrives.
What Are the Best Evolutions in EA FC 27 Right Now?
There isn't one Evolution that is automatically best for every squad. At launch, the strongest value usually comes from Evolutions that either fix a major weakness or dramatically improve a low-rated card while preserving eligibility for future chains.
Frontline Paradox is particularly useful for eligible strikers because it improves several attacking attributes and can add an Advanced Forward Role. Pivot Shift and Creative Crossroads offer more customizable midfield development through FC 27's Pathway system, while Fullback Fork lets you develop a fullback into the role your squad actually needs.
Repeatable Evolutions also mean you don't have to spend every Evo opportunity on a single "meta" player. They can help upgrade multiple players from a favorite club, league, nation, or past-and-present squad.
Can You Remove an Evolution in FC 27?
Yes. FC 27 allows you to remove either the most recent Evolution applied to a Player Item or remove all Evolutions from it. However, removing an Evolution is permanent and cannot be undone.
You can preview the downgrade before confirming the removal. If the card was tradeable before any Evolutions were applied, removing all Evolutions can also make the original Player Item tradeable again.
Do EA FC 27 Evolutions Expire?
Some Evolutions have two different timers. Get Within tells you how long you have to activate the Evolution, while Expires In tells you how long you have to finish its objectives.
If an Evolution expires before you complete every level, you keep upgrades from the levels you already completed, but you won't receive the remaining unfinished rewards.
Are Evolutions Worth Using in EA FC 27?
Yes, especially if you want to keep favorite players competitive instead of constantly replacing them. The best results come from planning around attributes, Roles, PlayStyles, and future eligibility rather than simply chasing the highest possible Overall Rating.
With Pathways and Evolution Chain Preview now built directly into FC 27, it's easier to experiment with different upgrade routes before committing. As more Evolutions are released during the season, those decisions will become increasingly important for building unique and competitive Ultimate Team cards.
