Purgatory Trials are the best way to test your skills in Ninja Gaiden 4. You'll get a taste of what a high difficulty hack-and-slash feels like and also get a reward if you win. What are Purgatory Trials in Ninja Gaiden 4
The Purgatory Trials are an optional high-difficulty combat challenge in Ninja Gaiden 4 that are hidden within the game's Chapters. They are an evolution of the Tests of Valor from previous Ninja Gaiden games.
These Trials are accessed through a hidden, blazing Torii Gate. Once you enter the Purgatory Trial, you'll face waves of enemies, and they are a close simulation of the game's Master Ninja difficulty.
Despite being an optional combat challenge, the reward is of high value. Before entering the Trial, you'll need to wager a portion of Yakumo's health to increase the words after winning. The more health you wager, the better the rewards. It also means the Trial's difficulty will increase. The health you wager won't be permanent. After winning the Trial, Yakumo's health will be restored.

Chapter 1: Bloodsoaked Tokyo |
After receiving the Caddis Wire and using it for the first time, reach the next platform. Instead of jumping across and using the wire again, head to the left past the large glowing billboard. Follow this path to the left and climb up to find the Gate. |

Chapter 2: Haunted District |
Found after the first large rail-grinding section, and after the game introduces flying drones that can be grappled onto. Grapple up to the building above you, find and go through the blue crates, which lead to a rail you can grind to reach the Gate. |

Chapter 3: Phantom Pleasure Quarter |
At the start of the mission, defeat the first group of enemies and jump up to the next level. Immediately turn around and follow the path marked yellow to the end, where you will find the Gate. |

Chapter 4: Pilgrim's Windswept Path |
After unlocking the Wing Suit, you'll be platforming up a mountain. Stop when you reach a wall to perform a wall flip directly after a wall run and a point zip. Instead of taking the path up, head to the right and through a secret path to the Purgatory. |

Chapter 5: Raging Valley |
Find Umi's shop around halfway through the level, before the big village. Jump down from this point and continue forward until you see a staircase with an unopenable door to the right. Go up the stairs to the bridge, then jump down into the ravine. Follow the path to the right to find the Gate. |

Chapter 6: Guiding Winds |
After platforming through wind tunnels and reaching a section with multiple grapple points, keep heading upwards until you reach a giant rope to grind down. Grind to a wooden platform, then use the wind tunnel, but aim sharply to the right instead of straight ahead to reach the Gate. |

Chapter 7: Altar of the Mountain Gods |
Platform across the area until you are just before the main Gate. Head down the stairs, jump across the platforms with yellow tape, and then head left to find the Gate. |

Chapter 8: Drowned District |
After clearing the massive disco room after unlocking the Pond Strider, open the main exit gate, but then head to the right of the main path. Use the Flying Bird Flip all the way up to another level. Follow the path and use the Pond Strider to reach the Purgatory Gate. |

Chapter 9: Realm of the Silent Dead |
At the first big pool of water where you can use your surfboard Pond Strider, instead of going forward, head to the left until you see a hole in the wall. Jump over the wall and continue forward to the Gate. |

Chapter 10: Bounding Spirits |
Right at the start of the level, after clearing out the first room of enemies, head slightly to the right of Umi's Shop and through the open door. Follow the path forward to find the Gate. |

Chapter 11: Infiltration |
Around halfway through the level, you'll reach a building that reads E4, then take a rail into another room. Stay on the rail until a train approaches, forcing you to jump to the right. As soon as the train passes, jump back onto the left rail, which will lead you to the Purgatory |

Chapter 12: Dragon's Maw |
Late in the Chapter, after rail grinding and reaching a room with challenging enemies, clear them out. Head toward the door for the next mission segment, but turn left and go to the platform's edge. Use a Caddis Wire point to swing across, then keep going forward to the Gate. |

Chapter 13: Clash of Convictions |
At the very start of the Chapter, head backwards and down the stairs. Keep heading down until you see a platform on the left to grapple toward, which begins a small platforming section leading to the Purgatory. |

No Purgatory Trial is available in this Chapter. |

Chapter 15: Fanged Gate |
This is one of Ryu's chapters. After escaping the Underworld through a portal to the underground disco, take out the first room of enemies. Go down until Ryu is facing another portal. Instead of jumping in, leap off and head to the platform on the left. Wall run and follow the path until you can turn right through a gate, where the Purgatory gate is on the dance floor. |

Chapter 16: Downpour |
Early in this Chapter, after taking an elevator and moving forward, you'll reach a part of Tokyo. Instantly head right instead of going left. Wall run and platform your way forward until you see the Purgatory gate. |

This Chapter's Purgatory is in the exact location as Chapter 7. Head down the stairs and across the platforms at the beginning of the level. |

Chapter 18: Darkness Reborn |
Ryu's original Chapter. After starting the big elevator and going up, move forward and up the stairs until you reach a room. Clear the fiends, then head left instead of up the stairs to find the Gate. |

Chapter 19: Endless Rain |
This Purgatory is in the same spot as the one in Chapter 18. Head to the exact location, left path after the room with fiends, to find the final Purgatory Gate. |
