Each player in Football Manager 2026 (FM 2026) comes with a set personality that affects how they perform on the field, as well as how they’ll act outside of it. Understanding your players’ personalities will allow you to bring out their potential while weeding out the worst-performing ones. Here are all the personalities you should watch out for and which to avoid.
Hidden Personality Stats
All players have 8 hidden stats that determine the personalities your players will get, and come with bonuses depending on how high or low each stat is. These are the following:
- Professionalism
- Professionalism determines a player’s overall growth during training and mentorship. Having high Professionalism makes a player very easy to train and become more powerful.
- Pressure
- Pressure determines how likely a player will perform at peak condition while playing.
- Ambition
- Ambition also affects growth, but it also increases that player’s salary and playtime requirement. Higher Ambition means higher maintenance costs.
- Important Matches
- Important Matches is similar to Pressure, but is used during championship games and high-stakes matches.
- Sportsmanship
- Sportsmanship determines the likelihood of a player using honorable tactics and affects their status with your fans.
- Temperament
- Temperament affects a player’s reaction to negative criticism and how easy or difficult they are to control.
- Loyalty
- Loyalty determines how long a player will stay on your team when things aren’t going well.
- Controversy
- Controversy determines how problematic a player will be on your team and in the media. This stat is best kept as low as possible.

Best Personalities
Born Leader
Born Leaders are by far the absolute best players you can sign for your team, as they have the highest Determination and Leadership stat distribution. Born Leaders have the most influence in your team and will stay motivated to win games.
Model Citizen
Players with this personality are very competitive with consistent growth across all their stats. Training a Model Citizen player will be very easy and has the most potential out of all personalities.
Resilient
Resilient players are much more used to pressure and stress from high-stakes games, making them perform at their peak in important matches. If you have a player with this personality, make sure they have the Reserved style, as this will maintain their Professionalism stat.
Light-Hearted
Light-Hearted players are similar to Resilient players, being less likely to crack under pressure, but they are also easy to control with their high Temperament and Sportsmanship. They have the most chemistry with other players and will not cause any trouble for your team.
Perfectionist
These players are the most motivated to constantly improve and master their own skills, having a nice balance of Professionalism, Pressure, and Ambition to increase their stats during training exponentially.
Spirited
This personality type has a great blend of Pressure and Important Matches, along with a bit of Professionalism, to make them very good players during matches. They will play at their best regardless of the kind of matches and can be trained reliably, making them a consistent choice to field in your team.
