The ROOTS update introduces more items that can appear during your run, as well as new enemies to watch out for. This list will give you a comprehensive breakdown of every new item and monster you can find in the ROOTS biome.
All New Items and Monsters in PEAK
Spiders
These are exclusively found in the ROOTS area and can be dangerous for any Scout caught by them. Spiders can be seen lurking under large mushrooms. If you stand directly under them, they will drop down and ensnare you. Should it pull you up, it will deal continuous poison damage until you are dead.
Mushroom Zombies
Mushroom Zombies appear as dead Scouts covered in mushrooms on the ground in the ROOTS biome. If you approach them, they will wake up and begin chasing you, as well as attempting to pounce on you. Should you take damage, you will receive a Spore debuff that constantly ticks up until you either pass out or use a First Aid Kit. You can also incapacitate them with a Blowgun.
Spore Clouds
These are environmental hazards that inflict Spore damage whenever you’re inside them.
Book of Bones
The Book of Bones can only be found in Ancient Luggage and Ancient Statues near bonfires. When used on a dead Scout, it will revive them, but turns them into a skeleton with a permanent Curse status. While Cursed, Scouts can no longer receive other status effects like Hunger or Poison, but will take increased Injury damage. This makes fall damage and other injuries more lethal, yet helpful on maps with many status effects.
Checkpoint Flag
This item can be found on any luggage and will serve as a mobile respawn point for all Scouts when placed down.
Fortified Milk
Fortified Milk is a consumable found on any luggage in the map. When consumed, it provides a temporary invulnerability buff that prevents all injuries. Unlike the Ancient Idol, it provides no other buffs.
Shroomberry
The Shroomberry only appears in the ROOTS biome. Consuming any colored Shroomberry will have random effects with the following:
- Faster climbing speed
- Blindness
- Low gravity
- Ragdolling
- Invincibility
- Farting
- Unlimited stamina for 4 seconds
- Increased Spore damage
- Bonus hunger reduction
Bounce Fungus
The Bounce Fungus item is exclusive to the ROOTS biome. These can be thrown onto any surface or placed on the ground, creating a platform that helps you bounce higher.
Cloud Fungus
This item can be thrown into the air, causing it to float upward. While floating upwards, you can press the Throw button again to turn it into a walkable platform in the air.
