Active Matter is a PvPvE extraction shooter where players loot and extract from an unstable anomalous zone filled with mutants, anomalies, and rival operatives. Operative progression includes Chronogenes, which players use for stats and hideout upgrades, along with various materials. Players can find Active Matter accounts featuring different levels of progression, items, and resources from trusted sellers.

Like all extraction shooters, Active Matter has a high-risk loot system where, upon death, players drop all the loot and gear they brought into the anomalous zone. This means that dying during a raid can set players back in terms of money and contract progression. While completing certain tasks like running and shooting can grant levels in their stats, players can also build structures in their hideout in order to grant buffs that persist between runs.
One of the most important base buildings in Active Matter is the Replicator, which can print any item using Active Matter, though it requires real-time waiting for the item to come out. This also comes with the Refiner, which dismantles unwanted items into basic materials that you can use for more crafting. Lastly, blueprints are an essential item for unlocking new items to duplicate in the Replicator. These are unlocked by gaining Chronotraces for the specific item, which means bringing that item into an active raid and completing certain tasks while it's equipped.
The overarching progression system in Active Matter is the Monolith, which unlocks new items and features like increased stash space as it levels up. Raising the Monolith's level means scavenging for specific items in a raid while also gaining Monolith tokens to unlock a new level. For players who want to unlock every schematic and weapon in the game, they can always purchase an account with a fully maxed Monolith level, Replicator, money, and cosmetics for the complete Active Matter experience.
